Find out before you buy

Let me start by saying that I change my router every 18 months because my internet speed is increasing, I keep adding more wireless clients and finally Wi-Fi technology keeps changing. Orbi, eero, Velop and Google Wifi are called connected because you can set up multiple hotspots that can communicate with each other and organize themselves. There are three very important things to remember about the grid. First, the access point can be dual-band (2 radios) or tri-band (3 radios), and second…

GARBAGE. Networking Products

Good. First let me say that I was excited and surprised when I first plugged it in. Plugged in and started straight away. I was up and running within minutes. The initial speed test was 5x faster than my Wi-Fi Google Fiber modems, so I'm very happy. BUT then I tried setting up the Circle app to monitor my kids' internet traffic. The whole purpose of this purchase. Then I find out that a firmware update is required to access Circle. No problem, right. .well you did it again and again on the…

Problems, Problems Best in Whole Home & Mesh Wi-Fi Systems

I had high hopes for Orbi after all the reviews I read both here and on other sites, but it didn't succeeded. The first problem arose almost immediately when satellite #1 failed to pair. I gave up after 4 tries and went to the second satellite and it connected immediately. So I went back to satellite #1 and it finally connected after 3 tries. Remember that the satellites were within 2 feet of the Orbi router. I then ran the requested firmware update. It went perfectly and only took 3-4 minutes.

Fantastic so far (2019 review)

An early review of the Orbi was, how shall I say, not favorable at all. There seems to be a lot of issues that seem to be fixed in one firmware, but in the next firmware things break horribly. So I hesitated to buy Orbi. I replaced an old Trendnet router that lives in my basement. Since he lives in my basement, I also installed a Trendnet extension to cover the whole house. The main reason for switching to a mesh system is the ability to eliminate the 4 wireless networks that served my home…

Take care and stay away from this router and Netgear. This is a trap and it will take you a lot of time on the phone to get help and they will take your $$ without answering the problem. I've been having problems with this router since June 18th. You have 3 months of technical support. Luckily I was within 3 months. My system was broken and needed a new router. Netgear promised to send me a new product within a week. I paid for RMA shipping and expedited shipping within a week, it was June…

Good concept, poor execution

I'm a network engineer by trade. Our house is set up so that my router is at the top on one side of the building and my bedroom is at the bottom on the other side. There are about 1000 feet between rooms with multiple walls. I've tried using wireless extenders and repeaters, but they all seem to suffer from the same crashing issue when going from zone to zone. I've researched a lot about mesh routers and decided to try this one. Installation was relatively easy and I was up and running in about

Terribly unreliable and backed with terrible support

I bought this router hoping it would be a good solution for a large room. I found it buggy and didn't work well. I've found the network to crash about 3-4 times a day and each time requires a hard reset to get it working. I spent hours on the phone with Netgear trying to solve the problem. I spent time on firmware patches and various settings. None of them worked. This network, like all others, is simply buggy and very unreliable if you need a reliable Wi-Fi network. Worst of all, all the time…
