Comfortable and easy to read, and quite accurate. I haven't tested the alternator yet because I disconnected the battery while it was running. I just want them to put a label with the voltage rating right on it.

To be honest you really need a battery load tester with a higher capacity to be an effective test tool. But for the average DIYer, this is a reasonable alternative. I would like one of the stress testers I used to use at the dealership, but the price doesn't match the overall budget. Thus, it is a good product for the average DIYer.

I had problems with sporadic engine starts, used a load tester and found the battery had trouble getting enough power to the starter on very cold days. I took the battery for replacement (no guarantee of charging) and now it works perfectly. The price was right, great for testing the charging system. Very happy with the unit. OTC IS A GOOD .product. Only complaint, didn't come with a nice plastic storage box.

The guide says to add or subtract depending on the temperature and cold cranking amperage of the battery. Since I tested the battery at 40 degrees, the low temperature compensated for the extra battery power on cold starts. I tested two different cars and both batteries were good. The OTC 3183 Battery Load Tested is compact and easy to use. It has fairly solid battery clamps with enough cable length to be able to hold the tester while standing next to the battery.
