Really well made snap ring tool

Very well made tool. Fits perfectly in the slots of the retaining ring. It looks like it will last forever in home use. This is the version without the center pin. I had no problem centering it and securing it with the QR nut. The nut and spring must be removed to insert the tool into the retaining ring, so it's easy enough to put the nut back on without the spring holding the tool. Be sure to leave the nut loose enough to allow the retaining ring to be unscrewed a few turns. To turn the tool…

Simple and effective

I watched a Park Tools youtube video (youtube search "cassette removal and installation”) and was afraid I had the wrong part as my bike bold is the rear wheel, FR-5.2 worked fine. This part slips easily over a Shimano retaining ring and easily mounts onto an existing HG41, allowing it to sit upright and not strip the threads. If I hadn't been careful it would have shifted and run the risk of tearing something off, so you have to be a bit careful. Bike: Specialized Turbo VadoCassette: Shimano…

Cons
  • There are some nuances

Works well but would like a different brand.

The tool did exactly what it was supposed to do and works perfectly. However, it can only be used with a 1 inch wrench. If Park Tool had thought of that, they would have also included a 1/2" square socket with the socket. This would allow the tool to be used directly with a torque wrench. Other brands (like IceToolz or Lumintrail) have this feature and cost about the same a lot or even less. If you want to use this tool with a torque wrench, you'll need a 1" socket, which most socket sets don't

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Attention! This tool does not fit my Shimano cassette. Online forums report that the manufacturer (Park Tool) has acknowledged defective tools during manufacture and is willing to send a free replacement if you receive a defective tool. The defective ones are just too big to fit into the cassette slot. This supplier is not the cause of the problem, but they should be cleaning up their inventory and speaking to Park Tool about their poor quality control error. I asked for a replacement directly…

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Wrinkled packaging

Simple tool for a simple task, works great

Works perfectly as intended. Worried it will stay still when you flip it? Simply thread the quick release skewer through the hub and tool and tighten slightly, just enough to hold the tool in place and all you have to do is turn counterclockwise to remove . Now you need a tool to keep the cassette from spinning when you loosen the locking ring. Use a chain whip to hold the cogs or a hook wrench, either will work but you'll need one or the other to loosen the cassette from the wheel. Don't worry
