No, they're not as good as your $300 for a little

This is a phenomenal deal. No, they're not as good as your $300 for a piece, but for the price, they're great. If you're just starting out and just need to learn something, improve your skills, etc., this is for you. .REMEMBER! - You have to keep sharpening your chisels, which means you'll probably screw it up once, twice, or a hundred times until you learn how to do it well. So start with something affordable, make your mistakes, and then strive for perfection.

  • Great for a small house

GREAT starter kit! - Turning Tools

As mentioned by many others this is a good set to start turning. The set I received was in excellent condition, on first use everything was fairly well tailored, the box is solid and straight, there are no dangling handles and none have broken since I bought them in October 2018. Personally I don't think I need to get one of the really expensive sets, maybe some extra/special chisels when I figure out what I need beyond this set but they have helped me so far. Although sharpness is key. It's…

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Zero

The steel behaved like unhardened mild steel. The first one I tried was the smallest one on a pine tree. Thought he'd better cut it than a flat head screwdriver. But this was not the case. Immediately rolled up the edge. In shock I thought this was just a case, maybe someone forgot to listen to how to treat them. So I put some maple on the lathe and tried a different tool. Almost the same, you were even full at first. I figured if you could spend about $70 on some tools, I'd get some good ones.

good enough? best of power and hand tools

I chose this as a first set for my lathe which for the price and as a beginner to turning doesn't mind as I don't have to ruin an expensive tool. The order was shipped and delivered quickly. However, when I opened the box, it turned out that the post holding the chisels was broken, the middle bar had fallen off, and some of the spikes on the bottom post had broken off. In general it's fine, a little superglue and the box will be like new. Most tools are poorly sharpened and I highly recommend…

A very good buy. in Power & Hand Tools

Bought for the price. If you are new to working on a lathe, these are the chisels you need. No, they are not top notch. These are good chisels and you get 8 of them. Everyone knows that after working a lathe, most of the work is concentrated on a few chisels. This set gives you 8 to use and find out which ones you really like. So if you're throwing really big bucks at it, do it with a part you really need, not one you almost never use. So if you don't care and don't need to have the best…

You get what you pay for

I'm new to turning but not new to woodworking. After reading the reviews on this set I figured if I wasn't paying $100 a bit it would be a good start. I was wrong. All of them have a rough factory sharpening. A pair of notches have large jags on the blades and one has a distinct ridge. I can fix those potholes. I'm not new to reshaping nicks on a belt sander. I do this a lot because I love buying vintage cutouts and repainting them. But these are solid, well-crafted notches to begin with. They…

solid, worth buying

as a newbie on the lathe, I didn't want to spend $400-500 on lathe tools, and then I realized I didn't want to anymore. This is a great starter kit and if managed properly can really be a good kit for life! sharp right out of the box, but depending on the wood you're sharpening, you may need to sharpen them. I've used it on poplar and haven't had any sharpness issues. I gave it 4/5 stars because I saw some discoloration/overheating on the parting tool tips and both bevel chisels, but being new…

Unexpected quality for the price

I found the carbide quirky and catchy for what I do so I had to do a proper HSS dip. You should get a comfortable sharpening (definitely don't learn to sharpen on a $90 notch first). All chisels and HSS chisels must be sharpened; the expensive ones are just rarer. I just roughed a square wooden cylinder and lazily stopped at the outside edges of the notch instead of "wearing evenly". I fully expected the edge to need touching up, ran my finger over it. , and cut it off because I didn't expect…

Very nice tool set at a great price

I was a bit worried after reading some of the negative reviews but when they arrived they were in perfect condition. In any case, I planned to correct the edges. Only one beveled bit had what I would call a "bad" edge. Having worked a lot in Asia, I understand that a product is often sold under multiple names, but I found it odd that they clearly weren't "PSI". but Benjamin Best. It doesn't matter, they work fantastic. Just to test them out quickly, I took a piece of a branch from an apricot…
