It just doesn't work

Before teeing off I followed the wiki guide, tried a few methods. On my PC - sees COM port but doesn't respond to AT commands through my Raspberry Pi - same story - Raspi sees USB CP102x but doesn't respond to AT commands. I asked a question here, but it has disappeared. I will be returning this product for Adafruit Fona. Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Long delivery time

2G Cellular Only, Likely T-Mobile Prepaid Only

The offer title should make it clear that this is a 2G only item, and for most of us in the US This means that you will need a prepaid SIM card from T-Mobile. The 868 SIM is outdated and the device must be cheaper than the $39 I paid. GPS/GSNN works great. The overall product quality and fit are excellent, especially for 2016. It should also be noted that this is a short header size, not a tall header size which is more suitable for most Pi cases.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Sad Hardware

This worked best for me in single board computers

I wrote a much more detailed answer but I can't seem to include links to things like their datasheets etc. I was able to use nodejs to interact with GPS, I can't talk to GSM capabilities (I haven't tried texting etc). I haven't really had a lot of problems with it but overall it works, I use it for GPS tracking and add it to the tool I have for road trips. This replaced the jerky setting where my Android phone sent the GPS to the server to get the job done.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Not as thick as the other options

Works perfectly! Took a little while for me, but works great.

The downside is that I'm new to coding and AT commands, it took a while to get it working but once I did it all loaded straight away. Haven't gotten a SIM for it yet so can't comment on call, text or data yet, but the GPS is there. I tested it in a Windows environment, had to do it via USB in Windows 7 and fiddle with the driver a bit, but everything worked with the test program. The DIP switch modes are a bit unclear, but it's just trial and error.

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • functionality

Terrible documentation

Warning this is made in China so the documentation is terrible. The only script that works with Waveshare is the PWRKEY toggle script. Scripts for SMS and calls do not work. GPS takes longer than advertised "3-5 minutes"; at least in hawaii. The documentation for downloading and obtaining the GPS EPO file does not work and does not help speed up GPS fix times. Currently with a Tracfone prepaid SIM that works on the phone for calls, SMS and data up to LTE.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Expensive

Easier than I expected

In the US. T-Mobile 3 for 30 prepaid SIM cards ($3 for 30 minutes/texts per month, not 30 of both). Launched on Mac in minutes before playing with Pi. Use CoolTerm to review the messages and get the CSCA number (just type at+csca? and it will pop up). I've been waiting all day to rip out what's left of my hair. I think my biggest struggle was with the silly little adapters to make it a full size simulator. Now that it does what I got it for, it's time to play with the rest. (Only 4 stars…

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Makes me nervous
