Difficult to set up, best on external hard drives

Do not pre-purchase this product. Here's why: I've tried setting up this device on a Mac Air, but to no avail! Here's my story: I activated Time Machine and it recognized the GoFlex drive. Then he asked me for a password which I have no idea what it is. Is this the password for my wireless router? Come on! it should be the GoFlex password. ok what to do As you know, the Mac Air does not have a CD drive. I could not set up with the CD. I read the QUICK installation guide and it says: If you…

Works exactly as promised just simple

I don't know why people write bad reviews about this product but I suspect it's because they bought the wrong product they wanted to use. Within 10 minutes of opening the box it was working as stated by Seagate on my Windows 7 PC. Five minutes later it was working as stated by Seagate on my iMac. Both backups started immediately and simultaneously. It installed quickly and without any fuss on both computers. The dashboard is easy to use and works as advertised. Only one very small element…

Low Performance NAS

I was very disappointed in my purchase and returned the product after contacting Seagate Technical Support. The problem was speed and compatibility with my backup software "Acronis True Image Home 2011 Backup". Backing up to a USB 2.0 device was faster than using this product on a full gigabit network. The product came with a broken ethernet cable and that was it. I have been using Seagate products for many years and was thrilled when I first saw this product for sale, but after solving many…

A good, affordable NAS solution for the home

This drive is easy to set up and requires minimal maintenance. The main reason I bought it was that it included an incremental backup solution that was easy to set up. Most of these NAS solutions assume that you create a full backup every time you need to create a backup. I wanted something that would check for changed data and only back up the things I changed. The only complaint I have about this software is that the part of Seagate that needs to run at startup to connect you to the drive…

Seagate GoFlex Home 1TB

I bought the Seagate GoFlex Home 1TB from Revain at a great price as an alternative to Apple's Time Capsule. I was put off by numerous reports of the Time Capsule's 18-month lifespan before a power outage. This is covered by my MacBook Air's AppleCare, but it's not great if the backup data is lost. The only thing I want to use for GoFlex Home is backing up my MacBook Air with Time Machine. If you read reviews of home network drives, you will see that the reviews are not very good and there are…
