Comfortable without soft shorts

I drive long distances (about 100 miles). I usually wear padded shorts on the seat that comes with my road bike. But now that my wife enjoys driving around the area (about 10 miles), I don't want to wear fluffy shorts for city breaks. So I changed the seat to these and now I can ride without the padded shorts. As an added bonus, the soft shorts are very comfortable for long trips and I don't feel any pain at all. I used to have a lot of sore muscles after about 50 miles. The seat is still…

Is that a "magic " saddle?

There is no magic saddle. You need to ride more, have the right shorts and a little suede oil never hurts. However, a good gel saddle will help eliminate some of the rough edges. I bought it for mountain biking and it was a very good choice. When there's a hard hit that your suspension doesn't handle well, having a forgiving saddle is a lot nicer than having a rock hard thing come down on you. For road cyclists, I would call that a fifty mile saddle. It feels pretty good up to this point. At…

This is a very good saddle. Not a beginner saddle

Very good saddle. However, this saddle is not for the novice cyclist. Your rear needs to be beefed up with some decent travel before you're ready to hop on this thing. Otherwise it will be too difficult for you and you will fall in love quickly. My usual bike seat is the Performance Bike Softail, which is a low-profile, race-like comfort saddle. Nothing suits me better than one of these and my "other" saddle is a 1990 Selle Italia Flite. so that I can also ride a narrow racing saddle. All in…

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Some bugs

*updated after a month of ownership* I experimented a little more with the height of the saddle nose and when I tilt it enough to ease the pressure on my hands a bit, the burning sensation returns. longer trips. I think the problem is the hard plastic rails on either side of the gutter and not enough padding next to them. This is more noticeable when I'm wearing shorts with less padding than shorts with more padding. For a lighter rider, this probably won't be as much of an issue, but as I said

  • Pretty packaging

  • I vaguely remember

Still deciding I think

I tested many saddles to find the right one for my rear triangle. I've tried several Terry models, some unnamed from China, every seat we already had in our garage, from every bike my husband bought for himself or the kids. I came to the conclusion that I needed the large center cutout, which this seat certainly has, and I couldn't do without the padding, which this seat also has. I tried this on a treadmill for an hour and the results were encouraging. So I put it on a tandem and we tried it…

Who designed this thing?

Let me start by saying that I ride a lot in the mountains and on the road. I ride for pleasure and for commuting. Also, let me say that I live in the Sonoran Desert and it's hot out here. Over the years I've increased my mileage to the point where I've decided to purchase a step saddle. I bought a Selle Royal Respiro Athletic. When I first hop on my bike it's very nice, but after about 10 miles you start to feel some harshness from the saddle and it gradually gets worse as the ride gets longer.
