Great product no batteries

Works well but no batteries. The packaging was torn on one side, so I'm assuming "shrunk in". It uses C cells which are not expensive but should still be available. I'll call the manufacturer about this, but it seems helpful as it eliminates old flares that have a timestamp and an issue to fix.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Only available in white

No expiry date: boating

I guess you don't need to worry about a ticket with expired flares. It pays for itself after several cycles of purchasing standard burners. I always keep and advise you to keep your old torches, they will last a long time if kept dry. I just burned a few that expired in 1995. Plus, nothing beats smoking torches for a day break.

It is a safe replacement for CG approved flares.

Torches are dangerous. They are expensive and only last three years. If you light one of these in your boat, you can easily set the boat on fire. If you hold it over the side of the boat you can only hold it for about a minute before it gets too hot to hold. I have a burn scar on my arm from the necessary computer flashes. This new electric flash is safe, will last for hours and many years with a simple battery change. I highly recommend this item!

Better than flame for safety and buoyancy aids

This is a great product. It's definitely better than running flashes. The price is about the same as flashes, so I waited for my flashes to run out before purchasing Sirius Signal SOS. I find it more expensive than it should be. However, it becomes cheaper in the long run, since you only have to buy batteries every year and not flashlights every two years. It doesn't seem to be very bright during the day but I was able to check the view from shore when I was about 3/4 mile away.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Rugged Equipment

I was looking for a high tech approach to naval flares and was pleased to learn that the Coast Guard has updated railcar requirements to include bright flashing LED lights. The Sirius signal distress signal has a distinctive feel. Batteries were simply inserted into the handle and the device was ignited by simply twisting the lens. Attached to the lantern are two thin straps of dense bungee-like material. These straps are useful for attaching the flashlight in an emergency. So instead of buying

Ambulance should have warned us that this item is overpriced

Well made but very expensive! I chose this so I don't have to change the flares on my boat every 3 years. I have a good flashlight with an SOS button. It cost $16. I think it should cost between $25 and $35. I'll keep an eye on the supplied C batteries and will replace them with my rechargeable batteries when they're no longer good (I have some great C battery adapters for my Revain AA rechargeable batteries). Yes, it came with a whistle, a distress flag, and batteries, but it wasn't $89. Now…

Looks well built

Received my electronic flare today. It blinks! Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I can't say how it works in an emergency. But it looks well built and I see no reason why it shouldn't perform as advertised. This is a bit more expensive compared to the flare kit but looks very durable. The instructions state that the batteries must be removed before long-term storage. I will most likely never need to use this unit (I don't plan on getting into an emergency) so I will consider long-term…

Great alternative to chemical flares

When I discovered this alternative to chemical (flammable) flares, the decision was easy. The electric flashlight feels well built, floats, is easy to store with no burning issues, and overall looks like it's getting the job done. The included whistle and daylight flare also meet the rest of the Coast Guard requirements for my 22ft boat. And since our local port patrol often checks flare expiration dates, I don't worry about a ticket for forgetting to renew my flare shipment. Sure it was…

Great replacement for dangerous flares

This is a reliable product. Provided the batteries last long (be sure to check every season and before a long trip; bring spares too) this is a great replacement for older flashlights that burn at high temperatures and need to be replaced every few years. , and burn just a few seconds. The app this electronic flash can be paired with allows for easy remote control (via Bluetooth) and can send "I'm fine" or panic messages. The latter depends on your phone's connectivity, so it's not that…

  • Nice packaging

  • Good but not great
