Wemo Mini Smart Plug - WiFi Enabled Plug that Works with Alexa, Google Assistant & Apple HomeKit Review

There is nothing to like about this unit. I don't know if the good reviews are fake or if only half work and the other half don't, so it's lucky if you get one that works or not. I have one that just doesn't work. It took a few times for the setup to finally take hold, but it didn't work. It's like buying something on Kickstarter offered by people who can't provide a working gadget.

The app that came with this product is rubbish. The design and usability are terrible. It's terribly organized, terribly slow, and terribly unintuitive. This seriously looks like a first beta, not a finished product. Bad enough I'm returning this fork and going to try a competitor's product. To be clear, I've got a new flagship phone, a monstrous mesh Wi-Fi network, and I'm no newbie to the technology. Nice looking product but never worked properly. It initially connected to our Apple router with no problems, went through a software update and has never worked properly since. After the update, every time I moved the plug to a different location in the house, it would not connect to our network despite a strong signal. If you happen to live in a galaxy where the power never goes out, then this product is for you! If you're one of the less fortunate people who struggle with the occasional power outage, stay away from the Wemo Mini Smart Plug. UPDATE 7/19/17 --- The new one can't find my network. Sending it back isn't worth the time or effort to try to get it working. Get a competitor's product to see if it's better. --- First of all, it is very easy to set up. I saw my wifi, connected with no issues, then connected to Alexa. Update from 12/16/2017: A switch completely stopped working. Several times over the past week I have had to say voice commands before the switches were found and activated. They return. I bought several TP-Link switches to replace which were easy to set up with no issues. Update - 08/20/2020: Two more devices failed: another bricked in "peach mode", and the second switched itself off spontaneously at night (this time the heater for my aquarium) .
