A great alternative to renting a CenturyLink modem

, Westell?) up to $10 per month. I decided to just buy a modem. They told me I could buy a modem I already had for $100, Revain had one for a lot less, but this TP-Link TD-8817 had better reviews. We already had a router, so I didn't need the modem/router combo (which this modem doesn't). A few tips if you are migrating from a CL provided modem to this one: IME, this TP-Link modem will not work if it is down. in bridge mode with CL service. As Mr. Lopez said in his review, settings are 8/35 for

Works with Cincinnati Bell

Router works fine - just like the Westell 6100 I'm replacing I gave it 4 stars because I can't get the full 10MB out of here. The interface shows a downstream speed of 10 Mbps, but when I run a speed test on a computer connected directly to the modem, I only get 8.5 Mbps. Cincinnati Bell decided to charge for using their devices without notice, so I bought these to replace the ones I had from them. CB Customer Service does not support third party modems. So please give them a call if you need…

Pros
  • QoS prioritization based on ToS, DSCP, service type or 802.1p
Cons
  • Periodicity

Almost all modern computers are equipped with gigabit ports. Some routers too, like my case. Long story short, I only recently started experiencing service outages while using this modem and almost had a different one shipped. After some much needed troubleshooting, I decided to try a different gigabit port. On the hardware side, it connects and disconnects instantly. After setting the speed and duplex to 10Mbps (100Mbps didn't work), the connection was stable and I had stable uptime. Since my…

Works with Sonic Fusion DSL service in the Bay Area

Fairly easy setup once you know what to do in the master . Using a Sonic modem/router, I averaged the following speeds: 15.65 Mbps download; Download 1.05Mbps. With the TD-8817, my averages are now 15.95 Mbps; Download 0.93Mbps. I'm not sure why my download speed increased, but my download speed decreased. 15.65 is fast enough so I'd rather reduce the load but increase the load. However, I encountered the following problem. If anyone has a solution, please reply to this post and let me know…

Pros
  • Works with the latest ADSL standards: up to 24 Mbps downstream, excellent performance
Cons
  • Lasts a long time
