Type of review

Some previous reviewers from 2018 noted that this device does not work with Mac. These issues no longer exist in the latest version of macOS at the time of this review (10.14.2 Mojave). However, it is NOT simply plug and play as most people might expect. You need to go to the TrendNet support site for this product and download the driver for macOS. Once I installed this baby I was ready to go. If you do everything correctly, you will see that the adapter shows up as "AX88179 USB 3.0" in your…

TRENDnet USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet LAN Wired

Works as advertised, even better. I have a Mac Mini (Late 2012) with OSX El Capitan. A few days ago my ethernet port died, fried or committed suicide. My diagnosis was no different than what had just happened, although I somewhat denied it. So I bought a TRENDnet USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Wired LAN Adapter to solve my problem. I had concerns about how this would work since I've never used it. For now it's Wi-Fi forever or try this adapter. I prefer a wired network connection over Wi-Fi any…

Cons
  • Doubtful

I have a Dell XPS laptop/tablet that is backed up daily by my home server running Server 2012 Essentials. I can usually do a full system restore on all my other computers using a bootable USB drive, but recently when I tried to restore my XPS I couldn't connect to the server. (The XPS only has a wireless connection and I went insane trying to find various drivers that would work.) With this adapter plugged into a second USB port, I booted the XPS into the recovery environment and used it then…

It works but doesn't show/show it's connected/working.

It works with my Acer Chromebook 15 but does not report/show that it is connected/working. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of paper instructions. Use it with Acer Chromebook 15 and it works but shows not connected/working. I got lucky and tried to check if I have an ethernet connection. It worked and very quickly. The connection is simple/simple: plug the RJ45 ethernet into the trendnet connection slot and connect the USB connection to my Acer 3.0 USB port. However, there is no icon

Works great on Macbook Air

I have Yosemite on my Macbook Air from early 2014. After installing the latest downloaded driver, the TRENDnet USB GigE adapter immediately connected to the network and started working . However, there is a difference between this USB adapter and the Apple Thunderbolt adapter. If you use multiple network profiles, you must manually and separately boot the device in each profile. This differs from the Apple Thunderbolt GigE adapter, which automatically downloads all existing and new profiles…
