Not very reliable.: Exterior accessories

First the pin fell out of the ground and the lock cylinder fell out freely, opening in the process. Second, they locked the camper for one night, the next morning we had to move and not a single key could turn the lock. I played around with this for 10 minutes before removing the ball hitch from the truck. I didn't think an improvised hammer with a few pounds and a short handle could do anything other than two light taps and the stupid thing fell off the trailer. Third. No, I'm leaving to find…

I do not recommend - Bad lock

Sorry, I do not recommend this product. While it looks and feels good and is a good theft deterrent, the locking system isn't up to par. This is the last time I buy this type of lock. They really don't work well or are generally unreliable. Luckily it was out of service when mine got so stuck it couldn't get out. I just wanted to make sure I had the right key, which I did. No wobble or WD40 will get it working again after I close the bar again. I had to give it up.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Damaged

This was the only lock that fitted

If your trailer has a very wide hitch then this lock could be for you. Our "yellow" hitch lock that we had on our old caravan didn't fit our new motorhome (4.5" wide hitch). We ordered a red lock from Master Lock and it didn't fit either. The Trimax -Lock is the correct width of 4-5/8" so fits perfectly and has enough room to push through the security chains as an added security measure. Time will tell if it will hold up to the elements, but the keyhole has a small rubber cap. This hopefully…

Pros
  • Pretty package
Cons
  • There are downsides

This product is fine. This is about what I give. It would take an effort to "move" it off the tongue, but it would still be very loose. My thoughts on tightening it and actually CLAMPING/locking it would be to use a jack underneath to apply maximum upward pressure, then use a hammer or a LARGE set of channel locks to finish locking it from the top. I still use it and it's not junk, I honestly think it would be the best suit for me if it fit my ball better. Regardless, it's still a lock and has…

Antique Lock - Tow and Winch Accessory

Warning - the lock I received is NOT the lock Trimax is selling today. I found out while trying to buy replacement keys. I got the keys but they don't fit in my lock (same code). I have emailed Trimax twice - no response. I called their toll free number and was asked if the key had an "X" in front of the key code. I checked and said yes - the rep said they are using a different manufacturer now and that the lock and key were from their previous manufacturer. They do not provide replacement keys

Pros
  • Enjoy
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Provides extra security for my chains!

At first I didn't want to try this lock after reading online that pendants with security chains are being stolen and this lock didn't do anything about it. After looking at the design I figured I could use a cross to grab the chains so I went ahead and ordered one. I'm happy to report that it worked for me and my clutch and chains are safe now. I can't say it works in all cases, but it worked for me. I should add that the cross is too large in diameter to go through the link, but as you can see

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Not everything fits

but I didn't expect the customer service to be so bad! Be careful

The lock has not been opened 6 months after purchase. Had to shorten the pole to tow my boat. Not knowing the product was guaranteed for life, I contacted the company on or around January 3rd and sent a photo of the item (cropped out) along with two sets of keys as proof I still had them. I received a brief reply from Jim Sentz that I needed to contact Revain for a warranty. Remember this was after a year of purchasing the product. Revain does not come with a warranty, but the manufacturer…

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Keep searching! Two defective locks in a row!

If you are reading this review you are probably considering buying this Trimax hitch lock. think again My experience with this lock was terrible. Bought in 2016 and less than two years later (lifetime warranty) it broke. I was about to take it off when we were done camping and the key slots weren't lined up. In the tool box. Finally, using a screwdriver and a hammer, I lined up the slots and removed the latch. Bad experience when you need to be somewhere and can't connect the trailer because…

Serious design for serious security. About three years ago I posted a negative review of the Reese's version of this device, a yellow metal scam that supposedly keeps a trailer safe. After 18 months of 3 Reese clutches failing (and 2 of their pin locks) I ended up at Revain looking for something better than what my local big store was offering and bought this unit. According to my review of the Reese device, this was in July 2014. I make a living towing a trailer, as does everyone I work with…
