VR Robot Universal Infrared Controller Compatible Review

Almost essential if you want to control multiple IR receivers from one smart system. Initial setup was fairly easy and works fairly well with the Google Assistant via the smart home app. It can control the basic functions of my TV and some limited functions of my audio receiver. The price justifies the offered functionality.

Does what it's supposed to! Programmed to allow Alexa to turn my old Insignia TV on and off. Also tested to change channels with Comcast. It works but it's a bit of a hassle, I just use the Comcast language instead. I've manually taught my remote to the device and it's great. This means that if you have an IR remote control for any device, it can be learned by that device.

I'm really excited about this product. I was hoping to get rid of some remotes and was really hoping I could create macros so my mom could switch TV inputs and use her firestick and not have to write down all the steps for each remote to get the TV back into TV mode offset. nope Everything sounds good, but implementation is lacking. It's also powered via USB, which is quite inconvenient for a device that's meant to be placed on a coffee table.

Read the User Agreement for the included Smart Life app used to control this device. This is subject to the laws of the People's Republic of China. Clicking "Agree" means (among other things) that you agree to abide by various standards of conduct under Chinese law. It probably doesn't legally apply here in the US, but just consenting to use the app seems odd.

I tried plugging this thing right out of the box but couldn't find it. I used the one recommended by everyone on Smart Life (Other > Remotes) and when that didn't work I tried every one. Single. Possibility. and it cannot be discovered YET. Then I thought it might be a problem with my phone. I've tried it on two others, one Apple, one Android and it was undetectable. EXTREMELY disappointed that this $20 thing couldn't even connect to the phone to start the process of using it!

This is a good remote but a work in progress. The instructions you are given regarding setup are extremely vague. Basically, you just have to figure it out through trial and error. Next - there is no possibility of customization. I wanted to customize the name of the TV box and change it to something simpler for Alexa, but I couldn't do it. Therefore when I try to change the channel I have to tell Alexa to change the set top box channel to _____ which confuses her and I usually end up on the…

I wasn't sure if this unit would support my air conditioner but I'm happy to report that it does. With this I was able to automatically turn the bedroom fan on at night and turn it off on a schedule in the morning. However, the device is only able to play back commands; it cannot understand the state of the system it controls (e.g. to be truly intelligent it needs a temperature sensor or other sensors along with that controller).
