DIY lifebuoy

I made a screen door to order and you can too. But the catch doesn't work if you want to get in from both sides, and I went to Home Depot and Petes only to find out they didn't have stock, so you basically have to buy it online. Glad I did it, it was quick and easy. The spring is so weak you won't believe it will work, but it actually works. Now it looks like a real screen door with a custom bottom window so my Maltese can get in and out on his own but the flies can't. Cheaper than a dog door.

Easy installation - strong enough.

We had an old storm door that we will be replacing over time (as with many projects). The latch was wearing out and I was worried that the dog might escape. I got an "aluminum" finish that I thought would be metallic with a clear finish, but was painted aluminum instead. Installation was easy as all the holes matched my old grip. The striker plate did not fit through the holes in the old plate - for the new clasp, the plate had to be closer to the door than the previous one. No problem with the

useless instructions; I ended up throwing it away

I'm giving this three stars because it seems the kit is made of decent material. However, the instructions were completely useless. Eventually I gave up trying to follow them and tried to match what was already written at the door. I managed to lock myself outside (luckily my husband was inside). Then I tried again and found that the spindle did nothing. The kit did not include the small spindle end piece that my original had. Pressing the button on the handle had no effect. So maybe there is…

This one is better than my original.

Yesterday around 3pm my son broke the handle of the screen. I was looking for a replacement for Revain and found this one. I ordered it and received it by noon the next day. I had it installed in 15 minutes. Works just as well as the original. This one is actually better due to the all-metal construction. The most difficult thing is to shorten the rod. The instructions say to bend to snap off a piece to trim if necessary. I tried and it was difficult. I used a cutting wheel which did the trick.

Extremely sharp bit on the back of the latch

During installation I noticed some blood on my hand, I looked and cut myself at the right index joint and 3 places on the left index finger and above the thumb joint. I was surprised as it only took a few minutes to install the handle and latch on this product. Upon closer inspection I noticed that on the back of the inside of the bolt was a piece of metal as sharp as a dull razor blade, I don't know if it was just a piece that hadn't been deburred or properly honed . , or whether it is similar

Pros

  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Very difficult to install replacing

I have installed many things and this was one of the worst. A 10 cent button spring doesn't stay there that easily - I converted another spring from something else. When screwing the inside and outside handles together you have to blindly connect the inside bolts to the connectors on the outside handle - you can't see them, you just have to keep fishing until you get lucky. Took forever. I have an old door and it has holes that are too big so there is a lot of play - maybe it would be easier if

Easy replacement, handle works great but lock doesn't work

UPDATE: Less than a year later, this product had an issue - a metal rod punched a hole in the handle (see second picture). Bought a cheaper one and ended up using the handle and part of the door frame from that one while keeping the handle from that one. No new holes had to be drilled, only the "spindle" had to be shortened by two grooves, as stated in the instructions. Total installation time was about 10 minutes. The strike plate that came with this one was a simple piece of metal, while the…

This is a very simple screen/storm door lock replacement - keyless! - with additional latches and screws for different sizes. Installation is very easy - took about 5 minutes. for this senior - assuming you replace a bolt with the now standard hole spacing. You need to choose 2 screws from the screws included in the kit (multiple sizes) that match the thickness of your door. The hardest part of the installation is making sure you adjust the length of the bar (latches to different lengths…
