Cheap option for large storage

I don't recommend anyone to use this as their only backup. If you use these discs, make an additional backup copy of your important data. They are used but not much longer than the lifespan you can get. I only use it in ZFS for gaming and have an external copy that I copy when I add enough files. Like I said, don't make those new permanent backups. The only use case where you don't mind throwing them away when they die. It can last 1-2 years or 5-10 years. It depends on how heavily you use them

Loud and terrible

I bought 2 of these for my RAID. They're literally loud, like a noisy old tuna hard drive. Next, SLOOOOOOW. For example, I'm pretty sure it's SATA and not SATA 3. It took me 40 hours to transfer 238 gigabytes of data. Then when it was done and I thought "It's finally over" one of the disks deteriorated and died. So now 10 hours have passed while RAID 1 carries out its raid. In the meantime, over 238 gigabytes of data have been collected in my entire work week. I want to replace her, and I…

Finally working but needs configuration

I have one of these drives for my Media Center PC. In the end it turned out to be Seagate. When I connected it to my computer, Windows 10 didn't recognize the drive even though it showed up in the computer's BIOS. I had to boot from Linux Live Drive to finally be able to access it. It turned out that it was not configured without a partition table. I was able to format it and set it up from a Linux environment. From there it appeared in Windows 10 as expected. So the disc itself is fine, and…

This drive is SLOW - not suitable for Windows operating systems Drive

This drive is an SMR drive. I didn't know anything about SMR/CMR (Scaled Magnetic Recording/Conventional Magnetic Recording) drives until I came across a mention of slow SMR drives and this one is definitely slow. It's slow enough to cause Windows 10 to blue screen frequently. My recommendation: Only use this disk for archives. It is not suitable for Windows operating system disks. This results in timeouts that cause Windows to crash. It's a dog loading windows slowly. It makes backups very…

Don't waste your money on this drive if you don't like a lot of noise!

I bought one of these discs because the price was very good, but after installing it and coming back from vacation I already noticed a serious problem with it. The read/write heads in particular are so annoyingly loud that I ended up having to take them out and put my old 2TB drive back in. I have a small HP Prodesk 600 G1 computer and this drive rattles and creaks like nothing I've ever tried. I've heard before that I've been working as an IT specialist in government for 20 years. I would have

Enterprise-class performance

Why four stars? Because there are certainly "better" - ie faster and quieter - drives, but not in this price range. I bought two for a new Dual Bay Gigabit NAS RAID enclosure from StarTech.com that I recently received and set them to RAID 0 (striped). I had to return StarTech as the file management was badly damaged, but I removed two drives and they are now live in the new ZyXEL [2-Bay] Personal Cloud Storage for Home with Remote Access and Media Streaming [NAS326] where the drives are in…
