Installed on a 2018 JL Sahara

Fits perfectly in frame and frame holes. As mentioned, there is a bumper mount with two welded nuts that attach to the frame and line up with the two outer holes on the hitch. I removed those two bolts, clamped the hitch between the frame and bumper bracket, then reused the original bolts and welded nuts. The screws that came with the hitch were used for the two middle holes. The muffler didn't fall off but used a rubber mallet and jack to pry the hitch into place so I could insert the boltsโ€ฆ

Requires modification for installation

Excellent construction, quality powder coat finish. Reliable device made in America. My Wrangler had weld spatter and leaks that interfered with the hitch installation. I tried using a dremel to sand down the overflow seams but the dremel didn't do the trick. I ended up using an angle grinder to bevel the inside edges of the top of the hitch bracket so it went over the welds, and then primed and painted the bare metal on the Jeep frame and hitch. It took an hour to figure out the problem andโ€ฆ

Serious heavy lifting - in a good way!

Screwed on without any problems. It probably only took me 15-20 minutes to install using standard tools? I didn't even have to drop the exhaust like the instructions recommend. I have an 18 JLUR with the stock rear bumper and the two outer bolts and matching weld nuts were reused to install the hitch. The thread pitch is different from the bolts that come with this hitch, so be sure to re-use the original bolts unless you plan to switch off the weld nut. Otherwise simply attach, screw on, done!

Pros
  • Nice thing
Cons
  • Not everything fits

At first I thought it wouldn't fit. Some Wrangler models have an additional metal brace that attaches the metal bumper frame to the plastic bumper. This is not available for all models. You have 2 existing screws if your model has them. If you take out those existing bolts the nuts will stay in place as they are welded on. Because of this, I thought at first that there was no way to attach the tow hitch to the bumper frame. All you have to do is slide it OUTSIDE of the metal bracket. It's veryโ€ฆ

Exactly what I needed

Installed today. It took a little longer than I expected but it fits and will do the job. The instructions recommend lowering the muffler to install the hitch. I wasn't happy to see this AFTER I bought the hitch but I was able to install it without moving the muffler. Also, the instructions recommended using a grinder to enlarge the original holes, but my car (Jeep Wrangler 2019) didn't need it. The photos in my copy of the instructions were a bit dark and black and white, so some of theseโ€ฆ

Not quite what others say

Pros: Sturdy construction and parts, high quality, $75 do-it-yourself installation vs. $215 + tax at dealership. The bike rack won't fit without a hitch extender (another $50) because the release lever hits a mud tire on the tailgate, preventing it from being fully inserted into the hitch tongue. Almost every review says it was an easy 20 minute install. It doesn't require much skill, but neither is it as easy as inserting four screws and there you go. This installation took 45 minutes and I'mโ€ฆ

Typical Curt high quality, perfect fit for my 2019 JL Wrangler

I just installed this hitch on my 2019 Wrangler Sport S 2 Door V6 Manual Transmission. The quality of this clutch is excellent which is typical of my experience with Curt products. Very good welds and excellent powder coating. My Jeep was very tight on the chassis cross member, so I had to jack the hitch up and use a large demolition hammer to make fine adjustments. I don't see a tight fit as a disadvantage as I believe a tighter fit is better than a looser one. All of the bolts went easilyโ€ฆ
