Wire feed speed too low.

I measured the wire feed speed on this welder and it was only 3 inches per second. This is too slow for realistic welding. You need more, at least 5-6 with the 030 wire. When I tried using it at maximum speed, the wire burned to the top almost immediately, even at the lowest current setting. Setting the dial to a value below 3 resulted in the drive wheel not moving at all, even without the cable plugged in. There was no wire or coil binding and the tension was set to any available tension asโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Welding and Soldering
Cons
  • Ok, but...

Quit bugging your buddies about their welder and go for it.

As the name suggests, I'm tired of asking my friends for access to their welders. They are usually busy when they find out your project may take a few days lol. Anyway, important things. The welding machine is easy to set up, you can go from crate to first roll in about 5 minutes. However, there was neither wire nor brush in my kit, most of the time you still want to throw everything away. The dials are nice, they don't snap, so I think the settings are stepless between the lowest and highestโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Welders and Supplies
Cons
  • Not bad

Far Exceeded My Expectations

UPDATE***** I've had the welder for about 2-3 years now. I love him for what he is. Makes excellent welds. But the wire feed motor stalled about halfway through the wire spool. A little disappointed. But I will fix it and keep using it. I'm a novice welder and have been a mechanic here and there for the past 15 years. I used very expensive welding machines, which simplified the task. I wasn't expecting much from this thing but it blew me away. I made some great welds on my first little project.

Beautiful car and great customer service!

Full disclosure. Everything I knew about welding when I bought it I learned from reading and Youtube. The device received great reviews, and there were a lot of them, so I decided I couldn't be wrong. Received the welder, the build quality is good. I started out with trial welds and had problems (for a number of reasons) but mostly ended up with a terrible and inconsistent joint with lots of spatter and pop. I decided to call Forney as their website offers help. I have one of their "Zach" techs

Pros
  • EASY TO USE-140 FC-I MIG uses .30 flux cored wire. It features stepless voltage and wire feed speed adjustment so you can set up the perfect weld! The ideal welder for beginners
Cons
  • Something different

Learned to weld with this machine

I work as a mechanic in a shop that does a lot of production work but I don't do it can't weld and wanted to become a more valuable professional. I also have a lot of work to do on my car project which would be a lot easier with welding. I bought this car almost 2 weeks ago. I had no welding experience, I had never touched a welding gun. My welder arrived and I read the instructions on how to set it up (it didn't have wire as written, I had to go get it) and just started practicing on the scrap

Pros
  • POWERFUL - up to 140 amp output to weld mild steel up to 1/4 inch thick
Cons
  • Very expensive
