Gets the stats you want and reduces overall post-trip logistics.

Before purchasing this device, I used my Android phone and Google Tracks (or Strava or Mapmyride) to track my road cycling activity. I would wear a heart monitor synced to my watch. My phone (Galaxy S2) doesn't support ANT+ and most cadence/speed monitors don't work with Bluetooth. For my post ride review I had to upload the file to Dropbox or Google Drive and then upload it to a few websites. Now I get HR, speed, cadence on this device. The Garmin Connect website is great for rating my rides…

great but not reliable for long trips

For me this unit has worked great. Most of the time. I've never owned an Edge 500, so there's nothing to compare to how the screen performs in low light. There are no complaints about the screen. I just wish Garmin would focus on making sure core features worked reliably and not add gimmicks that nobody wants (HR's Life Report comes to mind). For short trips, everything is usually fine. When driving over 300 km (and randonners often do that) it gets shaky. Remember the days of Windows 95 when…

After checking the Bluetooth cadence sensor and heart rate up to .

After thinking about connecting a Bluetooth cadence and heart rate sensor to my phone, I decided to get a dedicated device. However, I did encounter a few minor hiccups during installation and setup: 1. I had to apply a large dab of epoxy putty to the pedal shaft to install the cadence magnet - with a bunch of other hardware I was expecting a gasket or something to come with the kit . 2. It was VERY difficult to connect the speed/cadence sensor to the GPS device. I had to search the web for…

My first bike computer!

This is my first bike computer and before I bought the Garmin Edge 510 I did a lot of research and compared many makes and brands. I almost bought a Garmin 500 because of all the positive reviews, and while reviews were mixed for the 510 I decided this was the route I wanted to take. Maybe because I could add a heart rate monitor, or maybe because the 510 is connected to both GPS and GLONASS satellites. I'm impressed because it picked up satellites even inside my brick house (although it lost…

Great device for my needs

Before buying Garmin I only used a wired computer for front wheel speed and distance and my iPhone with Strava to log GPS data. I've been using Strava for several years now, any updates should ensure continuity. Knowing that the first release of the latest line of Garmin computers is Bluetooth capable and we are running Garmin Connect, I figured Strava and Connect compatibility would only be a matter of time. Thanks to Garmin and Strava for finding common ground. . History is key to making data

Garmin Edge 510 in Sport & Handheld GPS

The Garmin Edge 510 has turned out much better than I expected and I would like to give it 4.5 stars. Overall it's easy to use and I like the accuracy of the GPS and speedometer. One of the things I really like about this and some other Garmin devices is that the user can customize the display. The Edge 510 allows users to choose which data field appears on the display and where each data field appears on the display. Very cool. I've read several reviews where reviewers complained that it's…

Solid Performer - Worth Upgrading

I purchased this unit after using the Edge 500 for a year and lovingly passed it on to my wife. The price of the 510 is a bit higher than the 500, but in my opinion it's worth it. The color screen is pleasant and I found it viewable in all lighting conditions. The high degree of customization of the screens is very convenient, as is the setting for different driving situations (e.g. racing setting, training setting, driving fun setting, etc.). As a bonus, you can track up to 10 bikes and give…

Didn't work for me - lots of negative reviews hit the spot

Didn't work for me! So I'm sending it back after less than a month of use. Luckily I still have time for a full refund. The Garmin device did not always sync with my iPhone. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. It also didn't always record travel dates. I immediately encountered "corrupt files", "sync errors" and "cannot access server". I did a little research after the race failed to load and found that many others were having the same issues, as well as other issues I suspect I'll run into…

Does exactly what I need

Model 510 is my first Garmin product. Before that I've been riding with a Polar 725 watch/heart rate monitor for the last 8 years. I was looking for a few things related to this purchase: 1. Simplicity 2. Heart rate measurement 3. Speed is measured based on GPS, not wheel magnet and sensor4. Reliable altitude and temperature measurement5. Acceptable form factor, ie less than a smartphone6. Easy to integrate on different bikes7. Simple bike controls8. Pleasure Mapping9. Ability to Ride…
