Town & Country Van in parts

Not bad, best from below. The plastic wheels didn't convince me. I think most of the pulleys I've installed on GM trucks have been aluminum. You cannot use the included bolt if there is not enough shoulder. You must sharpen the outer washer on the one you are removing or it will jam the linkage. It needs to be sanded down about 3/16th. After working in this field for over 60 years, I still can't believe the cars these people make.

Plymouth Grand Voyager Owners NEED IT!

My belt keeps slipping off my Grand Voyager 2000 after changing the belt and idler. I finally broke down and bought this and it was the best decision! We changed it last week and up to today's manhole wash we haven't had any rain. Jumped in the van and ran through huge puddles and the belt held up well! I'm so happy! If I could give 100 stars I would! Here is a link showing the tools (port freight) and instructions for removing the tensioner under the car. [.] There is no need to remove theโ€ฆ

POOR DESIGN + SPECIAL STRAPS MAY ARE OLD

Installation is simple and typical. The work becomes more difficult if the car has a rear air conditioning system. Immediately after installation, the idler pulley danced continuously about 1/8 inch and the belt squeaked (perhaps screamed more vividly) continuously. During installation I noticed that the creases made into the strap to fit the box were difficult to untangle and there seemed to be one spot that was tougher than the rest of the strap - so I figured that these things would workโ€ฆ

Works great for timing belt kits

If you are looking to upgrade your caravan etc I know what you are going through. I'm tired of lugging around tools to build the dam. Serpentine straps again! And always flew at the most inopportune moment. My son found this through an online search and I bought one. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. It was easy to install (had access to a lift) and hasn't had any issues since and has been up and running for 8 months now. Highly recommended. UPDATE: I reviewed this product onโ€ฆ

Not an easy setup, but doable!

The product does the job and it's not Gates' fault that Dodge designed the car the way they did. On my model van there is no way to get to the tension nut from underneath (it would be a 40 minute job if I could). I had to take out the air jack parts, reposition the wires and hoses and the top motor mount that holds the alternator. Then completely remove the alternator and connector wires (be sure to label them so you know what goes where and so you insert them fully when reinstalling). I alsoโ€ฆ

The perfect solution to a stubborn problem

I have a physical store. Every one of my customers with Caravan/T '98-02 and C with 3.3 or 3.8 has the same problem: The belt slips in the rain, mostly after driving in a puddle. Chrysler recognized this problem early and offered something called a "snow guard" but it was a Canadian part number and they stopped manufacturing it circa 2003. Gates has come up with a fantastic solution with this all inclusive package. The original smooth idler has been replaced with a ribbed one and a new beltโ€ฆ

Nice update, a bit complicated

This upgrade seems to have fixed the problem of the belt falling into the water - on my dad's '98 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8L. I would give five stars but this is not the easiest job in the world. My dad and I did half the work ourselves, we had a Pep Boys mechanic replace part of the tensioner for us because we didn't have a workbench or hoist to unbolt this thing - I think it cost about $50, to do it. 70 dollars. He would have done the top pulley by another 50 or so, but this part was easy toโ€ฆ

Praise for a much-needed upgrade: the Gates 38379K kit.

Please read my warning in the second paragraph below. The kit works; no defects found on the components. There was no written guarantee in the box and I didn't see any mention of a guarantee anywhere. The instructions provided were too general to be helpful and lacked illustrations or photos. However, help and support is available online. Warning. If you have a vehicle where the accessory drive belt derails easily or if you drive through puddles, YOU MUST GO TO THIS KIT.
