When it came and looked like someone else's return

When it arrived it looked like someone's return. All parts were removed and the box was sealed with tape. Assembly should be easy, but not because the parts didn't fit. After hours of drilling holes and using extra screws I finally got it together. The finished product looks nice and solid, but I cannot recommend this mailbox. It also fits a 4x4 bar which is not included.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • boring packaging

Parts do not match

Simply put, the top of the mailbox does not fit the bottom. The base is exactly 12 inches wide. The top, which needs to fit into the corners and grooves of the base, is 12 7/8 inches wide. At first I thought I could bend the top and slide it into the base's groove. It takes a lot of force to push it through 7/8" but it can be done (with the help of my son who is a strong young man). The problem is that once the top cap is in the groove in the base, it doesn't stay there, it slides out on its…

Sturdy and easy to install

Easy to assemble and install. I watched a YouTube video to understand how to assemble a mailbox. The video is better than the instructions that came with it. Need a drill if you don't have a strong grip like I do. I purchased the 6ft pole and house numbers separately. And a 50 pound bag of QuickCrete. House numbers were purchased from Curb-n-Sign of Revain. My investment in the "Post Leveler" has paid off. I had to cut about 8 inches from the bar to get the mailbox to meet USPS height…

Excellent weatherproof mailbox. and holds up well after being beaten

I installed this mailbox in our home in Spring 2012 and 4 years later it still looks as good as it did when it was installed. My wife LOVES the fact that she can open the back door and get her mail without stepping on the curb off the road. Installation was easy, requiring only 4x4 stands in the ground. I dug a hole about 20 inches and filled it with Quikrete and that was enough to make it strong. Weak point when I drove the mower too close to the crate, hooking the crate on the armrest and…

Just a little wobbly, but otherwise sturdy and solid.

As a DIYer I have installed dozens and dozens of these mailboxes and consider this one of the best. Once you've gathered a few parts, you can put them together in under ten minutes. However, if this is your first, follow the instructions in the order presented. The hardest part is combining the different sections that need to be rotated. They never seem to align properly. You'll have to squeeze a little to get everything together properly, but if you're careful the results should be good. My…

Disappointing, there are better options

Although I picked it because I think it's beautiful, I think this design looks better on a CAD designer screen than it does in real life when manufacturing tolerances come into play. Lots of assembly problems: you start by assembling the top of the mailbox with its base, but you have to compress the top to fit the base as the size doesn't match. The problem is that three screws on each side are not enough to hold the top in perfect position and you end up flexing on the sides of the top despite

ok but first you need to know something

.1 It has a pole but you STILL need a wooden pole in the ground. If you already have one in your old mailbox, simply cut the mailbox off and put it back on once you've assembled it.2. connected from top to bottom. Another attempt will not work. Since thw arehouse obviously creates them and stacks them on top of each other, this is NOT a perfect fit and the screw holes aren't holes. just dots, and the screws need to be at an angle, not straight down, or they'll pop out again. Make two media…

  • Definitely bad product
