Not good for me - problem fixed!

Received this saw today and tested it right away. It looked beautiful. I opened and closed several times and everything was fine. The last time the blade was locked in the open position and will not close. Nothing I've tried comes close. The saw is running 1 time right now and I just lost $20. Update 9/13/2015 Planet Home Gear will be in touch with me and offer either a refund or a replacement. I decided to have a replacement as I still wanted a folding saw. The new saw came with a letter…

Folding pruning saw

I bought this saw for hiking and it was made to carry along with a knife to handle any bushcraft needs. I figured I could save weight by replacing a large carving knife with this saw. Turns out I can save some money depending on which knife it replaces. For example, this saw weighs 10 ounces while the Esee 6 weighs 11.8 ounces. A few other common bushcraft knives it can replace might be the 15.9 oz Kabar BK2, 7.5 oz Buck 119, 8.4 oz Ontario Blackbird, 8 oz Bark River Bravo 1.5, 6 oz. about as…

Great so far!

I took it for my first flight on a 2 day hike/camping trip. did a great job and is most handy for logs up to 4 inches in diameter. had a rainy trip so removing the thorns from fallen pine trees was a big help, especially at night. I was able to pick up 2-4 inch branches and split them lightly with a knife or ax to access the dry inner wood. Otherwise we wouldn't have a fire! The locking mechanism is great and why I spent the money on it and not the cheaper saws. The short blade was also favored

Not the best design. UPDATE: Much needed product and great customer service

My husband got this for me for Christmas so I didn't get to use it very much. But what struck me immediately was that the blade would not stay closed when hanging from the hole in the handle. As I will only be using it to hang in the shed I did not send it back straight away. I'll update my post later in spring when I get a chance to use it in my garden. Update 03-06: After I posted my review above, the seller contacted me. He explained that the screw in the hinge area of the blade could be…

As they suggest, it really is best to cut into.

Used for the first time today while teaching my wife how to pick deadwood. Keep in mind this is my first folding saw but what happened I have my pros and cons. The upside is that when they say "durability," they mean business. I overdid it and fell on a whole 6" branch and contrary to their recommendation I sawed back and forth, it got stuck in a pinch, must have bent at least 2-3 inches. I just pulled it out, no damage, which is unusual for the saws I usually use. When folded it's small enough

Great saw great price great saw

This saw works fantastic. It is convenient, the blade is securely fixed, the body is metal, as is the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism has a plastic cover but is otherwise metal. I made a user error. I'm so used to my Carpenrter hand saw that I've forgotten it's a Japanese saw that cuts backwards or when you pull the saw. After remembering this important fact, the saw cut perfectly and quite aggressively. It has 9 teeth per inch and is not as aggressive as a 7 teeth per inch saw. It has

Misleading documentation

First some things I don't like. It is made in China. I would prefer it to be made in the USA. The documentation goes on to say that it has an uncoated carbon steel blade (which supposedly "reduces friction"). It has no uncoated blade! The blade is apparently covered with a thin rubber membrane that is applied as a liquid. How do I know? Aside from feeling it (it's a bit sticky under my fingernail), I can SEE where the liquid droplet dries a little thicker than the rest of the coating. The…
