Netgear RP114 router

Great router! But I had to work hard to get my Wii through this router's firewall. So four stars for being the Fort Knox the router.

Pros
  • I hold my fists
Cons
  • Big and bulky

RP114 really good hardware

I was able to connect my Windows98 and Sun Ultra 5 PC with Solaris 8 in about 2 and 15 minutes respectively. Don't forget to telnet to the modem: telnet 192.168.0.1 and change the default password once you have all your computers. and work. Different models of Netgear routers have the same username and password combinations. For the Sun Ultra series - if you have configuration problems - on Solaris 8: Go to: /usr/sbinexecute:sys-unconfigReboot. Questions. Just have your router's IP address…

  • quality build

None of the interfaces (HTTP or Telnet) are complete

I bought this little module because I used to buy Netgear products (4 port hub and 56K modem/router combo) . What I hated most about the RP411 was the interface. The HTTP interface only allowed configuration of SOME router settings. While the Telnet interface was more advanced, it didn't have the content filtering section or DHCP list that the HTTP interface had. (Maybe I just didn't see that in the telnet interface, it's entirely possible). I'm used to using WinRoute Pro, a software router…

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent

  • Somewhat serviceable

Great tool and easy to set up

I work from home and needed something to route all my home computers. Great tool. Setup took 2 minutes and I can access my company's extranet. No problem. The user interface was extremely easy to use and interpret. I love my NetGear router. I set up a network for my people with a NetGear RT314. It was just as easy to set up and has a few features like port forwarding and parental controls that I find pretty user-friendly. A good buy.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Can break

Easy as pie!: Router

So I got DSL via SBC (great service by the way) and since I have 3 PCs in my house we decided on a router. I chose Netgear primarily because of the Linksys name and not-so-great history compared to Netgear's historically outstanding quality. It's a great thing, works right out of the box (if you have cable, DSL, you'll need to provide your DSL username and password) and takes less than 3 minutes to set up, including the download wait time. I haven't dropped it in months and she's doing great…

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Requires socket

If this router stopped working for you.

Several reviewers have written and said that after a period of time the router starts to randomly drop the internet connection. I also had the same thing, but I put it down to a DNS issue, not a connection issue. This means that the router (for whatever reason) loses the ability to read numeric Internet IP addresses (e.g. .117.106 (or any other IP address). If this works, you have a problem with the DNS. router configuration or in the TCP/IP network settings for each computer that is connected…

Pros
  • fingers crossed
Cons
  • unreliable

Excellent easy to install router

This router is a great choice for building a home network or small business network. I have a lot of experience with computer hardware, but this was my first time setting up a home network. I looked at this router and Linksys BEFSR41 and settled on Netgear. I'm very glad I did this. Reviews of both routers complain about customer service. I don't know how Netgear customer service works because I never had to call them. I set up a network with three computers, all running XP. Fifteen minutes…

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Style 90

not worth the money

Update: Works great and is set to use home network to stream video. Use LAN messenger to chat anywhere. Just don't use port 1 lol. Port 1 certainly seemed to act as a server, after removing it we have port 2-3-4 using the network at the same time, no problem. Came with a bad ethernet cable, no instructions or installation CD. I was glad they didn't change the setup password after I found the setup online. It never worked. Tried running laptop and PS3 at the same time. None of them connected but

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

NetGear RP-114 over D-Link DI-704

I bought a D-Link DI-704 for my home network to share my DSL connection with four computers running Linux, Mac OS-X and Windows 2000 to share .and XP. The DI-704 seemed to have all the necessary features (NAT for my server, web configuration) for the task. Unfortunately, it doesn't take more than 6 hours for the network to hang. Sometimes the subnet stayed up (inside the firewall) and sometimes it didn't. I've updated the firmware, tried a few different configurations, reset a few times and…

  • Great Price

  • Lots of Stuff
