Works with XP disc. Love screws for safety

Slim, strong, works great. I'm using this to recover data from an old Windows XP computer that died many years ago. I was concerned about compatibility with my current Windows 7 and 10 machines, but it works great with no issues. The kit includes a small screwdriver with 5 screws (including 1 spare) to secure the drive to the case from the bottom of the case. . I think it's way better than the ones that come with pieces of foam that slide between the drive and the case to hold it in place. You…

Works as advertised but be aware

This product came packaged as advertised and with all the parts needed to convert an internal SATA hard drive to external. Easy Installation: Just slide open the top of the device, insert the hard drive and press to secure the connector. Replace the top and if the drive is more permanent, install the 4 screws on the bottom to secure the drive. If you're using it to temporarily move files to or from a hard drive and you need the ease of swapping hard drives, you may not want to use screws. Just…

Ideal for using old computer hard drives.

Now I have two of them. They are ideal for using SATA hard drives from older computers, either to restore old data or to reformat and use as an additional backup. I always take discs out of all my computers before I throw them away, so I have a collection. I use one to permanently place a spare drive on my router and on the second I swap drives back and forth for information. No setup required - plug in the drive, screw it in, pop the cover back on, and plug it into your computer (and AC…

Not too shabby: Hard drive accessories

The drive case works as advertised, but I've noticed that some have complained about their drives getting hot. Well, I hate to say it, but it was to be expected. A few tips to counteract this: 1) Keep the case cover open. 2) Raise the object about an inch above the surface by putting something in the corners. It would be better to buy a fan system like me and you will get rid of the problem completely. Of course you can buy a device with a fan, but they are usually weak/small and don't have…

Works like any external drive. What else can you say?

All the connectors feel so solid that I'm sure they will last a long time even with a lot of movement. The only exception might be the internal SATA connector. It doesn't have much vertical support so it can be moved up and down a bit, but I don't know if it's soldered directly to the board or if it has a cable. If it has a cord, the freedom of movement won't compromise durability. In fact, engaging or ejecting the drive too aggressively can improve durability to some degree. 3.5" hard drives…

Just plug it in and save my butt :p

I recently had a damaged hard drive that can't access the boot sector at all. I ended up buying a new hard drive and wanted to find a cheap way to destroy all the data from the old hard drive. Placing my hard drive in this case and connecting it to my PC was a breeze. Windows was able to recognize the two partitions I created (one for shared operating system files and one for data). He found that both partitions were damaged, but was able to "repair" the bad sectors (or so he claimed). In the…

The only way to get WD MyCloud working!

I had this huge 4TB backup drive that I removed from WD MyCloud. As I always try to reuse hardware, my first attempt was to use an old external drive case to house a 4TB drive. I could only access 2TB on the old hardware. Enter the RSHTECH hard drive enclosure. Pros: After opening it, it took me about 5 seconds to insert the drive, replace the lid, plug it in, and access the entire 4TB. This is the fastest update I've ever done. And I have more than enough disk space to back up two or three…

HONEST REVIEW: Best in HDD Enclosures

KEY POINTS: - It's cheap plastic, no big deal unless it can get the job done but still. - When performing heavy operations such as full formatting the entire drive, writing 300-500GB (or more) of data at a time, etc., the temperature of the hard drive becomes very high, so high that I can hardly touch the hard drive. It will always be very hot - during recording the connection disappears, hangs and after a few seconds it is restored, this spoils the entire copying process and you have to start…
