Fantastic idea, disappointing execution

I love this idea, it's easy to sharpen knives at any angle all in one tool! The problem is that for some reason they thought you could only do 2 degree intervals with a somewhat limited range and totally missed the point. Almost all of my knives have a 15° bevel, and some knives (tools, to be precise) have a 25° bevel. So I have the same options as before: sharpen/buff at the wrong angle, buy a sharpener with an angle for each corner, or break out the whetstone. Not 100% useless, but annoyingly

It works! Find your angle first!

I use this on my expensive M390 steel machine. Draw a line along the blade with a felt-tip pen and make several passes as you pull, using only the weight of the knife. Adjust it until the ink on the blade scratches right on the bevel of the blade, which is an easy way to find your angle. Once you find it, just do 5-10 on each stone. Make sure your knife's shaft is straight and the blade doesn't wobble when you pull it, or you'll end up with jagged corners. This tool is great for sharpening…

Works perfectly. in Cutlery & Knife Accessories

I have both this and the axe/machete version. These are excellent sharpeners that allow you to sharpen blades very quickly. They take quite a bit of material and are quite different from most other stone sharpeners I've used in the past, so I'm trying to be conservative with my pressure when you see the shavings falling as you pull the knife through. But they absolutely work and work very well. If you have a knife that you use frequently, this is a great way to keep it sharp and in constant…

My knives ruined! in Kitchen & Dining

I'm not sure if this is a defective product that I received or if this item was just a piece of junk to begin with. However, I've ruined a lot of my good knives with it. I used it to sharpen 14 of my chef's knives and then put them away. About a week later I went back to work, grabbed my knife pouch and tried to cut something and I FELT the knife was jagged. I took a close look at it and found that the edge was naturally jagged as much as possible. I tried my next knife. The same thing. next…

Learn how to sharpen pocket knives by hand.

Bought to sharpen folding pocket knives that I have often. Luckily, over the years I've learned to use a variety of grinders and bench stones to get useful sharp edges on a variety of tools and knives. Among the various brands of whetstones I own, there are several Smith's sharpening products that are generally very useful and well made. This particular sharpener is not one of Smith's products that I would consider useful for sharpening knives. This fairly simple device is well thought out and…

solid, simple, easy to use, good value for money

I was looking to upgrade my Smith pocket sharpener and it goes perfectly with all my fixed and folding knives. It sits firmly on flat surfaces. It takes no effort to guide blades through rocks. This is a great purchase as an alternative to using flat stones which I've never been good at. With my knives, it doesn't take long to sharpen the blade. I confess I haven't used it on a serrated blade yet. So I can't talk about how he behaves there. The possibility of changing the sharpening angle is…

I didn't want to get stones and oil done.

I bought this knife sharpener for my son as a Christmas present many years ago and have recently (but discreetly) used it on my cutlery (Henkel and Wüsthof). To be honest, I was a bit lazy and my knives lost some of their sharpness. I didn't want stones and oil to get the job done so I borrowed my son's sharpener. It works really great which I don't want to admit as it looks like a scam and is a small fraction of what I spent on the stones. I understand needing to buy one for myself so I looked
