Perfect fit for my BMW 2008 E90 335i (3 legs needed min. adjustment)

I used this for a stubborn fuel pump ring on my 2008 BMW 335i e90. Several BMW fuel pump aftermarket companies offer tool rental, but this worked great and cost the same as the rental. I used it with all three legs at the minimum diameter setting. 2/3 of them hooked perfectly where the 3rd was on the edge of the ring tongue but just enough to keep it stable. Worked very well to remove and reinstall the 1/2" break ring.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not as thick as others

One-Piece Circlip Removal Tool

Before deciding on this tool I checked out the comments and on a previous review I found the leg buckle to be more secure. Coincidentally, the reviewer had the same car as me. After receiving the tool, I went to my local auto parts store and purchased M6-1.0 x 20mm hex bolts, lock washers, flat washers and installed the feet with this equipment. The image comparison of the two connecting elements speaks for itself. Once the legs were aligned with the retaining ring and tightened, removing and…

Don't use a hole punch, buy this tool.

The guy at the parts store in Napa told me that everyone uses a punch and a hammer to move the fuel pump retaining ring and lock it back in place when working on the fuel pump. With this method, the ring came loose normally, but when reinstalled it popped out of the rack. After a few scratches on my hands and irritation I bought this tool. Installing the locking ring on my 2011 Hyundai Sonata took less than a minute with this tool. Replacing a fuel pump is a fairly advanced mechanical project…

The tool was too big to be useful.

I pulled the fuel pump out of a 2000 Caddy Deville DHS. The tool was too big to use on a 4.6 liter V8 fuel pump which is a big car engine in a big full size car. I'm not an expert. But it looked too big for a car's fuel pump and probably too big for any SUV or small pickup truck. It is adjustable and for me it was as small as possible, but it was too big. The design looked good and the instrument was reasonably durable. I just don't think it will fit anything other than a GMC Lark or an Isuzu…

Did the job with little difficulty.

First of all, the fuel pump retaining ring on my 2012 Ford Escape is very tight. I had a little trouble trying to reinstall it using this tool. The tabs on the tool didn't quite line up with the snap ring holes without fiddling around a bit. Also, one of the legs was not tightened because the bolted portion of the leg was too high to be slotted. I managed to get it set right, but it took a lot of effort to eventually install the locking ring. It was nice that this tool allows you to use a 1/2"…

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Some difficulties
