The quality is good, but it didn't fit.

The application manual said it would fit my 1993 Ford F150 but it didn't. The diameter of the jamb is too large to fully close the door. It snaps into place on the 1st click but doesn't fit in the gap on the 2nd click. I'm wondering if Dorman 38445 is the part I need. I ended up wrapping the old pole in thick heat shrink tubing and reusing it. Let's see how it holds up.

The socket is too big. 1/2 PEX works better

I installed this on a 1996 F-350. After installation, it was almost impossible to open the door. This seems to be a common complaint about this product. After researching online I used a piece of 1/2 PEX tubing instead of hard plastic. The PEX required some pressing (jack and vise) but once installed it worked fantastic. The reason for this is that PEX is smaller in diameter than a rigid plastic sleeve. I did both doors and they close like new.

tried hacks. they didn't work

So I have this 30 year old F-250 that had "rattling" doors. I went to YT and found some hacks. NONE WORKS. I tried adjusting the cleats inward. The door was either forced open or you had to slam the door. It's HARD to close. In the end I broke down and bought this replacement bolt. yes, it worked great. I adjusted a bit to properly close the shutter, but I'm no longer afraid of breaking the window from slamming it so hard. Now pull slightly and the door will close and latch properly. The first…

Works perfectly. Used on 1995 F150

Works great. Used on 1995 F150. Like others, I had to sand down the plastic bushing to make it work. I put the bolt in the drill, put a washer on it, then a sleeve, another washer and a nut. This clamped the bushing onto the stud so that it rotated when I turned on the drill. Think of the "poor man's lathe". It worked fine. Check back often as you sand it, but don't be surprised if you end up sanding a decent amount of material. Make sure the size is right for your application. It uses a…

Like he said, buy a $2 pex pipe and it will work!

I don't usually write reviews. I felt obligated here. I didn't mess around with this product like others did, just followed the advice. It is obvious that there is an oversized bushing on this part. I followed the previous reviewer's advice and I'm glad I did. I removed the old bushing. I bought a piece of blue Plexiglas tubing from a home store for $2. I cut a piece that matches the length of the Dorman jack. I used a 12mm deep socket and pressed it into the stud. The stem is now a bush and is

Bushing out of spec - practically useless

The only part needed is the plastic bushing which is larger than the original bushing. It's wider and slightly longer, so if you tighten the shoulder screw until I'm in place, the bushing sticks out even more. In other reviewers' experience, the door was so difficult to open (after aligning it exactly with the original) that I figured I'd have to use a crowbar to open the door again. I need to measure the stock passenger door bushing and either machine it on a lathe or just make my own out of…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Not bad

All the bad reviews on here seem strange to me as this lock bolt fits all my Ford trucks, 1993 F-350, 1996 F250. I think what a lot of people don't realize is that their pickups might have another problem they don't know about, like bad pivot pivots which causes those shock studs to wear out faster than hell. This helped my door stay closed for a while but I knew in advance that my top door hinge would fail and result in a break which I have now repaired so this won't happen for the next 30…

like all these 1980's thru late 90's replacement Ford car, auto, truck etc door latches you will need to take them apart and grind the OD 1/16" of the OD or they will stick and you will have to be a gorilla and use both hands to open the door when used as received. The first one I bought years ago, tried waiting for it to wear a little, tried graphite spray (failure that it is black and dirty color), tried lubricating with silicone spray, etc., save time and simply reduce the outer diameter…

Bushing Too Big

This part had mixed reviews as to whether it was right or wrong. I went ahead and bought the part knowing it might not work properly. One person stated that the part works properly if your door hinges aren't worn out. This was my case where I installed the door correctly but it was difficult to open. This is because the bushing size is larger than my truck. I decided to remove the bushing and replace it with a 1/2" PEX water pipe cut to the required size and it works perfectly. You can skip the

Wrong size fits Body & Trim

For a company that positions itself as a supplier of quality products and with all the negative reviews that the plastic sleeve is too big (I think I was hoping mine would be different ) , I thought Dorman would fix it and send the correct size bushing. What should have been a five minute job took over an hour to put on, take off, sand down, reattach and repeat. And I still have to slam the door to make it click and pull hard to open the door because I had to stop when it started raining…
