Always 66 degrees - Updated review after replacing

Got a new thermometer without returning the old one (thanks Prime!). This one works better. It has about 3 degrees of dispersion, which is about what I expected. I mean it's 10 dollars. My wife just wanted something that she could use to figure out what type of jacket she needed for her needs. So I'm giving it 4 stars - for accuracy, but kudos for the cool design, the ease of moving around and holding on to the window, and the big numbers that make it easy to read. inside the house it was 70…

Initially the accuracy was not as good as expected

Initially the accuracy was not as good as expected. No mass-produced thermometer is one unless each is individually calibrated to NIST standards (I'm an engineer and a retired US veteran, if that helps justify the honesty of this review). If you turn the thermometer upside down, however, you'll notice a bimetallic coil on the back, a small portion of which protrudes from a slot in its plastic housing. Tap this metal a few times with a toothpick to make sure it doesn't get stuck or jammed. It…

Keep out of direct sunlight

Make sure the spring isn't 'stuck' - you may need to tap the end of the spool to make sure everything slides smoothly. Also if a spider gets into the chamber where the needle is (yes it happened to me and the needle didn't go past 80 because of the web) just pour some water in the vent and shake it all around until the residue is at the bottom of the chamber. The temperature is easy to read from a distance even at night - the numbers are big, the needle contrasts well, and when the room AND the

This is a cool low tech thermometer

This is a cool low tech thermometer. About four years ago we bought one of the cordless indoor and outdoor thermometers. They had very mixed reviews, and we ended up having the same complaints as many for many different styles and brands of wireless thermometers - they drain batteries incredibly quickly and then just stop working. Temperature readings are also very difficult to read. So I wanted to get back to basics and found this thermometer. I like it because I want a hand held thermometer…

  • Definitely bad product

Good product. If you get the exact

I ordered two of these from Revain in mid-May, both were free. I've tested them on 2 thermometers that I know are accurate. One was absolutely accurate, the other about 2 degrees off (reason for the deduction of 1 star). I probably should have returned it but I kept it to myself and on June 11th I ordered another one from Revain as a gift. That was true, too, but in the month between orders, the price almost doubled. I paid $5.89 each for the two I ordered first, $10.98 for the one I ordered a…
