The BGE Pad scam worked!

here. I cheated and it worked. I didn't even take it apart or take it off. And no acetone. I lit the old gasket with a propane torch and then removed it with a scraper - 10 minutes max. I then sanded off the residue with a grinder - max 5 minutes. Looked clean. Applying this product was easy. Just go slow, only applying 4-6 inches at a time. I have a large egg and there were a lot of extra things. Total time, including running to the basement and garage to retrieve a propane lamp, scraper, and…

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • For old Big Green Egg users

Easy replacement for the original

My original gasket on the large BGE was worn out so I found this one. Preparation is key. I scraped off all the old, sanded lightly with 320 grit, then cleaned with household cleaner. Wipe with alcohol and let dry completely. Start at the back and slowly work your way forward as you remove and press your backing into place. I used J-Roller when I went but you can probably just use your hand. Don't stretch it. There's a lot on this roll for a big BGE. We put the lid on and lower it for 24-48…

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Expensive

ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED for AKORN Kamado BGE or Char-Grill grills. I (accidentally) super-strengthed my ACORN (pricked the needle and burned the temp gauge!), and my lava castle survived, little more than charred. This is a real bargain at a great price. The standard packaging is more than adequate for the (Akorn based) main ring, ash pan and lower baffle panel. I have about 3 meters left. Just make sure you get the edges you're attaching it really clean. I mean rub the scrub in, then dampen it…

Excellent smoker/grill insulation

I don't have a ceramic grill. But I needed a Nomex pad for the 2 smokers I have. This is the first time I've used this type of Nomex tape to seal my smokers' doors. From a 15ft roll there was plenty for my needs. The thickness of the felt pile is 3 mm. If the incisions are not made completely, you can tear the edge of the felt with low angles or frays. The adhesive is very sticky so just peel a little from the backing at a time to attach and stick. I suggest using a sharpie marker to mark the…

Replacement Seal for Big Green Egg XL

Bought to replace the seal on my Big Green Egg XL. I waited too long to do this and there was smoke seeping around the lid and base. As a result both were very dirty and required a good cleaning, scraping and some sanding to remove any residue. Next time I won't wait so long. The instructions recommend using acetone or mineral spirits to remove the old glue and gasket. A clean surface is a prerequisite for perfect bonding! Once the surface is prepared, the seal is easy to install. I waited the…

Used on Big Green Egg, no problems so far.

It's only been a few weeks but so far so good after many brews. I installed this seal on my large Big Green Egg as a replacement for the factory seal. I didn't have to apply silicone, RTV heat sealant, monkey snot, or bat droppings. Just peel off the old gasket, remove the old glue, which was relatively easy in my case, I cleaned the surface with lacquer thinner, let it dry (10 minutes to be safe) and carefully glued the new gasket in, not taking care to let the gasket in. a protrusion in the…

  • Almost OK

Works great no problems

Installed a few months ago, they work as expected, no better and no worse than the factory products. If you are new to changing pads, simply remove the cover completely and make sure you clean the discs very thoroughly. Start with a scraper to remove old and excess glue. Then use a degreaser and wire brush. Wipe it off with paper towels and keep rubbing. When clean, give it a few more wipes with Simple Green or another surface cleaner, then wipe with alcohol to remove any residual oil and…
