Description of PAPILLON Adhesive Universal Tailgate Stripping

【Saving Materia】The tailgate gap cover saves you time and money by keeping loose materials like mulch and rock from falling through the gap between the tailgate, and the bed of your truck. When used with a tonneau cover, gapshield also acts as a partial tailgate seal that reduces the amount of dust in the truck bed. 【Protect Your Truck】Prevents rocks from falling onto the bumper step pad, and damaging the underside of the tailgate. This is an easy solution to these common problems. 【Durable Elastomeric Material】The durable elastomeric material easily flexes along its entire length, so it won't interfere with closing the tailgate, yet is in place when you need it to help secure your load from falling through the tailgate gap when travelling or when you drop your tailgate for unloading. The tailgate gap cover can also be easily tucked in to the gap, getting it out of the way of any other use of your truck bed without interfering with closing the tailgate. 【Easy-installed tool】Direct replacement tape, you just need to push the stripping foam on the rubber sealant above the installed place. 【Sufficient Length】The length of 11' is enough for you to use on two pickup trucks.Made from durable all-season elastomer and automotive grade high strength tape.Designed to help get the most out of your vehicle.

Quality rubber, glue isn't much better than using tape.

Good quality rubber and very durable. The glue is very poor, washed, dried and used alcohol swabs which were provided to ensure a good bond and seal. Didn't even last a month before falling apart. I didn't open the tailgate for several weeks to allow time for the installation. I'll try super glue, maybe that sticks better.

Adhesive Universal Truck Rear Door Gap Rubber Cover

One order is enough to make two trucks. The surfaces cleaned with alcohol and easily installed with good adhesion. Even on the tailgate, which is spattered with lining. Time will tell if it holds up. It closes the gap as described, preventing objects from falling in and damage to your truck. Not necessary but works for me with my new truck.

Pros
  • Outstanding Overall
Cons

It works but requires more than what comes with

The material itself feels strong and durable, but the adhesive doesn't hold at all and doesn't reach the edges. As a semi-permanent attachment for unloading bulk cargo, I used a JB weld to attach the surface to the truck bed. It's not a bad filler, but I'd either suggest a different product or be prepared to just use epoxy to really apply it to the truck bed.

Will not adhere to truck body or trunk accessories

My truck has spray-on body padding. I bought a bed mat to install with sticky squares after using the prep kit and it worked really well. I prepared the place where it will be installed and wiped it with alcohol. The adhesive seemed to stick but came off after a few days. In the end everything collapsed. I really wanted this product to work but the supplied adhesive just wouldn't stick to the sprayed liner. With no glue, it's just a flexible strip of rubber.

  • Cable is shorter than other parts

Adhesive peeled off 48 hours after installation.

If your bed isn't flat and has ridges, the tape won't stick. I prep the area by cleaning with mild detergent, drying and wiping with isopropyl alcohol. After drying, I peeled off the tape piece by piece, applied it and pressed it on. Once there, I walked around with the heat gun. This should create a strong bond. Within 48 hours the tape came off my bed. The rubber strip is strong, but grooved beds require better glue.

  • great product

Only mount on flat surfaces without body pads

This is a great idea but will not work on trucks with a "corrugated" floor that extends to the rear of the body. It adheres well to the flat surface of the tailgate, but the contoured surface of the bed bottom doesn't stay down. Also, it won't stick if you have linen spray. If you have a duvet, make sure the elastic is attached under the duvet so nothing catches the elastic when getting in and out. I'll try to attach it to a flat surface with Gorilla Tape. a vertical surface at the back of the…
