I had to modify: Exterior accessories

Installed on my 2008 Ranger FX4. Connection instructions are incorrect. I had to disassemble the door to figure out which wires to connect. Also had to modify the drive/latch mechanism to fit my truck. Overall it was very easy to change, just drill a hole a little and bend the tabs that hold it in rotation and file the locking mechanism slightly to avoid interference. However, you don't have to change it to make it fit. Everything works great now, just a pain to install.

Not exactly a teardrop shape. Instructions are questionable.

Does not quite fit the factory tailgate latch. Modifications were required to make it usable. Nothing special. A Dremel cutting wheel tool and grinding wheel were required to cut the bracket to fit. The instructions tell you to run electrical wires up the passenger side door sill to connect to the power door locks on the pillar. It was easier to start mine from the driver's side. You need to drill a hole in the tailgate to put the power lock through and unlock the cable. Plan accordingly…

IT SIMPLY WORKS! in Exterior Accessories

I wish I had found this item first before swapping out the two cheaper locking knobs for a key. Key handles are made of plastic and can break. Constructed of steel, this one handles the dust of Oklahoma's dirt roads without flinching. If you want to lock your tailgate without spending a lot of money, this lock is inexpensive, easy to install and DURABLE. FYI: After reading some other reviews, it only snaps on one side of the handle (driver's side). You may need to adjust the release links if it

A little tricky to install but works so-so.

There were some minor errors in the installation guide, plus the wiring in new cartridges is tedious but works great. The first thing I had to do on my Ranger was adjust the latch rods to make sure they jammed the latch before they were pulled far enough to open the tailgate. A slotted hole for the mounting screw would be a great improvement. After 3 years of use I am planning to replace it, it is unreliable in both locking and unlocking. I have opened the tailgate more than once without…

Works on 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0

Fits 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0 non-original tailgate latch with minimal modification. The mounting hole needs to be drilled out a bit. To be honest I switched to a metal handle instead of the factory plastic one. The only star I took off was for the quality of the drive. I've tried adjusting it every way I can and used some tricks like adding zipties to limit the throw, but it still didn't work. Push the release: the actuator extends and springs back halfway, still locked. Press the latch: the…

Invalid color code.

I bought this lock for a 2007 Mazda B4000. The lock works as advertised. My troubles started with instructions. While the instructions state that the lock is for Mazda B-Series 94 and up, the instructions themselves make no mention of Mazda when it comes to determining the color of the vehicle's existing wires that the tailgate lock connects to. The assumption that the chassis will be identical to the Ford Ranger is also unfounded, since the colors mentioned (pink with orange and pink with…

Decent deterrent for lock on 04 Ford Ranger with topper

My $0.03. Pretty easy installation. I had to open the accessory panel because it was covered in rhino. The power cord was a bit short and I had to extend it to the passenger side. Once installed and locked, the lock had some play before it snapped shut and the gate opened anyway. So I had to adjust the handle so that it didn't open immediately. Hard to explain, but I basically had to adjust the grip so that it didn't fire instantly (about 1/2 - 3/4 of the grip before it fired). So I added a…

Will not fit Ford Ranger 2002

They come with a box of connectors, lots of fasteners, extensions, an actuator on a mounting bracket and installation instructions. That's all. The Pop and Lock website doesn't have an installation video, neither does their YouTube channel. The guide consists of 11 steps, 7 of which describe models from different years (as the product must work on 94ft or more rangers) and colored wires for connection. There may be 3 or 4 steps describing how to remove all required components to install the…
