🔒 Enhanced Power Tailgate Lock (PL8340) for Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 Models Review

This was a replacement for an electric lock I had installed on my truck that was beginning to fail. I like this unit more because unlike the Powergate this installation doesn't use relays so there is one less bad part (I think the relay started to fail intermittently) and the installation is easier. That was on my 2007 Dodge Ram 2500.

I routed the wire harness from the back door under the truck along the frame, drilled a hole in the body connector on the floor behind the driver's seat, and connected the wires to the left rear door latch circuit. Installation instructions are vague and customer support was difficult to reach. I had to flatten the drive arm because it got caught in a fence that was preventing it from sliding back and forth. I just installed this over the weekend and am happy so far. I routed it from the passenger side, not the driver's side, to hook it up that way. I did this for the simple reason of the durability of the lock itself. That way it only opens when I open all the doors, not every time you press the unlock button. Works great! I've been using it for 3 months now and it works exactly as you would expect. Pros: Overall, it's easy to install and the included instructions are easy to follow. I think it took me less than an hour overall (and it takes my time with a few beers).
