This bowl is of excellent quality. Very smooth so the yarn won't get caught even in a small twisted area. It would be a good decoration in itself, the wood and finish are so good. I thought long and hard about which yarn bowl to buy, but this one looked the most natural and was said to be made of walnut wood. It cost extra money. It's beautiful and looks like a work of art on my coffee table, not just a bowl of yarn. As far as travel goes, they included a cute little pouch and it would be great for travel, only I'm not sure I would take the bowl on a trip, but it definitely looks sturdy enough to make the trip.
