Run Don't Walk Away From This Modem

After lightning struck my phone line and my modem stayed open, I ordered a new modem through Gateway. Here's what they sent me. It's nothing but garbage where it is now. A simple connection takes over a minute, several minutes to load a single page if they load at all, numerous disconnects, speeds never exceeded 30 kbps (when the old modem was 40-44) and more often as low as 20 seconds. After two weeks I stopped using this modem and reverted to a damaged modem that still works better than the…

There is something like QA

Just brought this modem tonight; I tried installing it on the parent machine. The modem was not automatically detected by Windows as the manual says, and I was unable to detect it using the Win95 Control Panel/Add New Hardware feature. I saw other people's reviews on Revain.com and agree with their assessment. I don't have a Pentium MMX, and at least the so-called manual should mention the MMX requirement. Although I paid $$ from Staples for it and saw the Dallas/New England game (during…

I get what I pay for

Best Data's motto should be "Customers beware". I'm new to installing hardware (I built my current system from scratch) but I couldn't get it to work after 5 hours of trying. No beep no matter what I do. The "documentation" is ridiculous, and I refuse to pay for tech support that isn't needed at all. If you're considering this modem, do yourself a favor and flush your money down the toilet; You get the same results with less hassle.

Modem is not @#%@& GOOD!

I bought this modem and only got no dial tone. I move the card to another PCI slot and still get the same thing with no beep. I just can't win. I'm sending this modem junk back. That's why they're so CHEAP. I will not recommend this modem to anyone even if they get it for free. Why should I pay for technical support? probably because this modem is junk. This is the first time I am writing a negative review for a product. There is always a first.

Modem needs to be deaf in computers and accessories

I agree with most of the reviews, this modem isn't even worth the $9.99 I paid. I had no problems installing the modem, but it doesn't seem to connect in less than 5 attempts. Back then the fastest connection ever was on 28800, but normally it's on 21600. I downloaded the new drivers from the manufacturer's website and I can't load them no matter how hard I try. I'll buy a decent modem once I've saved some money. Don't waste your time and money on this dog, he needs to be put down! If there was

Bad Bad Bad Modem for computers and accessories

Well, like most other respondents, I chose to express my disappointment with this modem. The lousy $10 modem from Best Data/Conexants is utterly disappointing. While installation was easy on my new 600MHz P3 running Win98, performance left a lot to be desired. Multiple retries and frequent shutdowns are the norm. There's also a really weird behavior where the modem's speaker turns on in the middle of a session and doesn't turn off (needs to turn off). The tech support website is basically…
