WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

This kit no longer has OEM quality! It no longer contains Japanese parts. Water pump, timing belt tensioner and two pulleys are Chinese junk! contains a single. I wish I could get that POS back but I have no choice but to install it) 0 :} I plan to revise my maintenance schedule to 40,000 miles to replace that crap when you install this kit. I recommend you do the same. Extremely disappointed! It used to be a good kit, too bad Gates chose a bad route, I won't be buying Gates products in the…

The best stuff to keep your Subaru in top condition

is as good as OEM because it is made by OEM and also the best price here is almost 100 less than anywhere else. I almost feel bad for people who walk into an auto parts store and drop 260-360 for the same kit. With everything you need to change the timing belt and a new water pump. This was for a 2001 Outback with 157,000 miles on which the timing belt was never changed. The water pump is driven by the toothed belt. It wasn't a good idea for me to spend a lot of money on a new timing belt kit…

You get what you pay for.

The set is really cheap. I would prefer the water pump not to be made in China (as is) and the rest of the components to be made in Japan or US/Canada. The water pump comes with gaskets and the hydraulic belt tensioner compresses and locks with a grenade pin. There are good instructions in the box. The quality of the parts is good. or very good. Well done Gates! A worthy alternative to Subaru spare parts. Recommend. REVIEW REVISED BASED ON RESULTS Approximately 2/3 of the expected component…

Gates. china.GcAhTiEnSa

I used to be a big Gates fan, have been using Gates timing belt kits for years, things have changed lately. Gates is currently selling very poor quality components and replacing formerly high quality bearings and idlers with very poor quality bearings and idlers. Of what is supposed to be (and was) a Japanese bearing there was actually only 1. The rest are made in China, no need to guess as 'China' is clearly written on them! The tensioner says Made in Canada but it is also of poor quality, I…

Great set for the money!

Great for the money, Chinese water pump that seems to pump water excellently, same temps as OEM pump, USA Gates belts, Japanese rollers and tensioners. The belt seems a bit tight, but that could be me. Anyway, I have no complaints. People complain about single bearing idler pulleys, but if you change them every time there's no problem, I've got them for over 200,000 miles anyway. I lost the idler wheel because someone didn't replace it when I didn't do it myself. Now I know that all of that was

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Hard to say

Works perfectly! on Belts

Fits my Subaru Legacy 2003 2.5l. Suggest to also replace front oil seal and thermostat at the same time. The thermostat is actually mounted on the water pump on this car, so you should be able to access it whether you change it or not! And the front seal is easily accessible when the toothed belt is removed. For the timing belt, be sure to fit the mainshaft pulley and the two valve pulleys before removing the old belt. After rotating them into position (while still having the old belt in place)

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • There are some nuances

Exactly what I needed. Almost half the price of the same kit from a nearby discount store. It includes a water pump. Needs come off first and come back last. It would be a lot easier if he said so. This is because it's on the longest section of the belt, so it's at the best leverage point. Also pay attention to the bushing in the tensioner. This sleeve fell off when I sat for a while and I left the place. Almost got it back without that sleeve. It's just a simple bushing that sits in the bolt…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful

Some components are of poor quality which may result in premature failure

I repair all cars for my extended family including timing belts. I usually bought Gates kits because I thought they had a good reputation. I now have two installations out of service (no intervention on the Miate) and on the Focus (unfortunately the engine is noisy). Both engines ran very well for about 10,000 miles and then stalled. Since both of them weren't at home, I couldn't determine which component had failed, but the mechanic only made the general diagnosis "toothed belt damage". My…
