would recommend. Guys, read the instructions!

read instructions, if you do it, there are almost no problems. I recommend making a bracket storage box as your first project and sticking the styrofoam from the stash into the new box. This will teach you how to use it properly without fretful picking up a good stash. Otherwise easy to use, cut all the dovetails for my box in 10-15 minutes (once I set it up properly).

Pros
  • handy thing
Cons
  • no machine

Well built, definitely an asset

This is a really well thought out device and very well constructed. I was able to create a box connected to the box in about 10-20 minutes, including the time to cut out the edges of the box. My only beef with instructions. Previously, the through-hole connection handbook recommended using a 3/4" jig guide, but it should have been 5/8" - so be sure to make a few test cuts on some sacrificial material before loosening your main wood.

Read the instructions carefully and completely!

Read the supplied manual and then read it again; finally read again. After reading and re-reading it, set it up and cover some of the notes left over from previous projects. Patience and practice will help you carve beautiful joints. My very first half bezel, which I carved from leftover maple, was perfect. My first dovetail cut through poplar was ridiculous at best. Practice, practice, practice and this device is worth its weight in gold.

Realize that there is a learning curve to this.

This is my second Porter Cable dovetail clamp. It produces precise, repeatable cuts and greatly simplifies dovetail docking. (A skill every carpenter should have) Full instructions are in the manuals, e.g. I can't find them on PC websites anymore. Installation is a hassle and there's no getting around it, so get plenty of cheap lumber first before you put in your good lumber. The curves on the templates weren't accurate, so they took a little coaxing to get them to 90. The edges of the offsets…

Great device, needs to read the instructions and practice

I like this thing but you really need to be patient and read the instructions. After reading the instructions, you still need to practice. Here I give you really good tips. For a perfect connection, everything must be perfectly aligned, flush, and at 90 degrees. No matter how hard you try, chances are you'll still fall behind, maybe 1/32 of an inch. Doesn't sound like much, but time will tell. You can easily sand everything flush to make it look nice. However, this doesn't work very well. It's…

PORTER-CABLE 4216 Super Jig

I purchased the PORTER-CABLE 4216 Super Jig after using another dovetail jig I've had for quite some time. The old dovetail gauge only produced blind dovetails which I found to be less than accurate (poor quality) after a few tries. Actually, for some of the projects I have in mind I've been wanting to pull through dovetails using standard 4213 and miniature 4215 jigs. After watching a few videos on U-Tube like Kings Fine Woodworking and a few others I decided to use PORTER-CABLE 4216 to buy…

Works fine for me so far.

Disclaimer: So far I've only used this jig on through dovetails. I haven't had an opportunity to make other types supported by this jig. The first few times I used this jig I blindly followed the instructions and found it easy enough to create tight fitting dovetails. Without much fiddling, I had splices that matched with smooth edges, and I was able to adjust how tight the splice was when I started trimming the pins (tails come first in the instructions, whichever opinion you prefer). I think…

Newbies, don't worry - it's a dream to install and use!

Great fit! Let me preface this with my experience. Intermediate to woodworking in general, VERY new to stitching. My previous experience with joints has been simple butt joint and miter joint. Although it was difficult, I wanted to learn beautiful (and strong) joints. That's why I ordered this plugin. Even after watching the YouTube video before ordering, I was still intimidated by the thought. I bought 3 boards 6'-1x6 for practice and expected a steep learning curve. no B. Everything. First…

Got a lot here at Revain after years of being on my wish list. Sometimes it just takes patience. Don't wait for Omni Jig or Leigh. That's not it. But it can be used by trial and error. Make sure you set it up the first time you use it by clamping a good wide butt stock and checking with a small angle that the front threaded studs (the ones with big knobs) are perpendicular to the workpiece surface both top/bottom and left/right . I was going to send everything back to Revain until I found out…
