Good product! But make sure spring-loaded pins fully engage.

this item is very well-made, heavy duty. There is just one small issue with assembly. On mine I had to use 1/4 inch drill bit to clean out the holes on the Board/kayak support arms. The spring loaded buttons would not fully engage the arms which could present a dangerous situation in that when the board or kayak was slid off the arm the arm could come off of its post and hit you in the head! It was an easy fix just holding the quarter inch drill bit in my hand and reaming out the holes of burrs

Pros
  • Absolutely love utilizing the space above the car to free up much needed storage below!
Cons
  • May not be strong enough to hold two heavy kayaks/canoes

Awesome use of space

I like this rack.it allows me to use space above garage door that normally is wasted. My garage door is 19" from the ceiling. Because of the fact that I mounted it above the garage door I am not able to load the kayaks alone as I don't have room between the door tracks and door operator tracks to get the kayaks up there - not a fault of the design but more of where I installed them. I kind of figured that out before I bought them and still do not regret buying them.It takes me two people and…

Pros
  • Using to store two 11’ SUP/kayak hybrids. Very easy to assemble/install and very sturdy.
Cons
  • May not be suitable for storing kayaks/canoes of different sizes

Well made, easy to install

Bought two kayaks for the kids, now what do I do with them? Answer: Store your Board 2 Kayak Ceiling Rack! Very easy to install in just a few minutes. I especially appreciated the fact that they are universal in that no matter which way your joists run you can turn the arms on the mount to face either way. This was very helpful because where I ended up putting them the joists actually ran in different directions. I ended up putting mine above the garage door rails (we have a very high garage…

Pros
  • Durable and sturdy construction ensures maximum load capacity
Cons
  • May not fit in a garage with a slanted ceiling

Very nice kayak rack

Easy to install, the lag screws that were included worked just fine, no need to make another run to the hardware store. I installed the rack above one side of my 16' garage door in the 'wasted space' area. I would not have needed the instructions but I found them to be very well written. The workmanship of the rack is very good. I also liked the angled, removeable crossbars. I would recommend this for anyone wanting to store their kayaks or any long items.

Pros
  • Overhead storage makes sense and is best for me
Cons
  • May not fit in all garage configurations

Nice way to store two kayaks

Installs easily with 4 screws into joist. I like it can be installed either parallel or perpendicular to the joists. I used to hang the kayaks from ropes on pulleys to the handles of the kayak, but one of the handles started to pull loose. Now I hook one end of the kayak on one support by the handle, swing the other end up on top of a support, then take the first end handle off the support and rest it on top of the support.

Pros
  • Easy to hang and gave us extra room in our garage.
Cons
  • May be too expensive compared to other storage options

Great for Ladder Storage

This rack was highly recommended for ladder storage, and it definitely meets my expectations. The fit and finish are first rate. The padding on the arms seems durable, and will keep the ladders from moving around during our monthly California earthquake. It would also cushion a kayak or SUP nicely. I considered deducting 1 point for the hardware, but to be fair I did not use the enclosed lag screws so I don't know if the manufacturer has improved them. I used 1/4" x 3" lag screws I had on hand,

Pros
  • Helps to reduce clutter in a small garage or storage space
Cons
  • May not be removable without causing damage to the ceiling

Great Rack for my two kayaks, with only one small complaint

This absolutely does the job really well for two kayaks. So happy to have them out of the way yet, safe and dry in the garage. high quality, adjustable and just a great racking system. Install was easy but almost destroyed my arms. Found the studs, centered and all that but wish I had an automatic ratchet set.My only minor complaint is the gold rivets that you push in to secure the cross bars that hold up the kayaks. Two of them were a little wonky and I actually had to take them out, re…

Pros
  • Makes for a great gift for kayakers or canoe enthusiasts
Cons
  • May be difficult to remove the kayaks/canoes if they become stuck or lodged

Quality kayak rack!

I got this to store a giant (15’, 65lb) kayak under our small deck. It is awesome! It is incredibly sturdy. After reading other reviews I went to the hardware store to get heavy duty hardware. To my surprise / disappointment, the replacement lag screws from the hardware store broke immediately, so I just used the lag screws that came with it, which installed perfectly! Definitely drill the pilot holes to install. I only used one set of arms because we only have one kayak. It’s plenty stable and

Pros
  • Easily adjust the height to fit two kayaks or canoes
Cons
  • May be too bulky and difficult to remove if not wanted anymore

Its Effective! for my opinion

Let's start with it is sturdy and well made. As you can see, I was able to get my kayaks above my garage door easily. I found the studs, hung the brackets, set the height from the ceiling, and I was finished. 25 mins tops. That said, with some measurements, I could have had this made for about $25 at a local muffler/weilding shop, a rattler of black paint, and a couple of pool noodles. Woulda taken all day, likely wouldn't look as nice, and if I'm honest, would have bene the wrong measurement…

Pros
  • Water Sports
Cons
  • May not provide enough clearance above the kayaks/canoes

Ahhh, it WORKS! in my review

First off, delivered early. Yay! Second, the package was much heavier than expected, and when I opened it up, I was very satisfied with the gage of steel used. No longer worried about it taking the weight. Third, instructions were brief but concise and installation was a breeze. Fourth very configurable. Can be installed so kayaks are mounted either parallel or perpendicular to joists, and the height adjustment is easy. Fifth, easily fit my 14 foot (and 34" wide!) Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 AND my…

Pros
  • Sturdy and was exactly what I was looking for. I put it above my garage door.
Cons
  • Maximum weight limit may not be adequate for heavier kayaks/canoes

Easy to install, quality rack

Item comes in good packaging, nothing damaged. Instructions are clear, all parts present and you only need a few tools for install as pictured. The hardest part is the fact you're standing on a ladder to reach the ceiling. I'm a 5'3 Woman and installed this product alone, only needed assistance lifting the kayak up. I recently moved into a home with a single car garage and fitting all the family tools, stuff, gym equipment, etc in there has been a real project. Very glad to get the kayak up and

Pros
  • Keeps kayaks off the ground, preventing damage and wear
Cons
  • May not be suitable for kayaks/canoes with odd shapes or sizes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Strong and easy to install but not enough travel

Everything as advertised except I have a high garage ceiling and the adjustable down travel isn’t sufficient and the boats are high off the ground. That being said, I only have to stand on the 2nd step of my step ladder so I can still safely load and unload my kayaks. Get the wider with as even the widest cross bars barely accommodate the width of my boats.

Pros
  • Easy to install and works pretty good. I have a kayak on one side and a ladder on the other.
Cons
  • May not provide adequate support for longer kayaks/canoes

Convenient and quality

I really like this solution for getting mine and the wife's kayak hung up out of the way. Is it kind of inconvenient to get it up and down? Absolutely. Does it work to a point I can tuck them up above the garage door and never have to worry about them in the way? Absolutely. I did end up buying lag bolts and anchoring them directly into a stud to make sure it was super sturdy and they are solidly up there to say the least

Pros
  • like... just make sure you center with trust
Cons
  • May be difficult to install in a rented or leased garage

Well-designed Kayak Rack

This is a nice kayak rack that works perfectly in our garage. Easily handles our two 11' kayaks (104 lbs combined) and gives us plenty of floor space that had previously been occupied by the kayaks. I really like the design that allows flexibility in the direction of the rack and the length from the ceiling. The rack is pretty sturdy, but I can see where it might be more difficult to install it into the truss if there was drywall to work around. Sure, a good stud finder should get you pretty…

Pros
  • Sports
Cons
  • May not be secure enough to prevent theft

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very functional; Issues with the finish

This rack is currently hanging from the (9') ceiling in my garage, holding a 12.5' Kayak and a surfboard high enough that I, at 6'4", can walk under them. It was easy to hang and seems very secure, though I do think one needs to be careful not to overload it. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the issues with the paint, or powder coating, or whatever that is- I'm not sure whether my rack was a previous return or not, but it had definitely been assembled (but not hung) before I…

Pros
  • Very happy with is product. Highly recommend!
Cons
  • May take up too much space in the garage

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very sturdy and secure

I had purchased a couple of straps with clips to hold my kayaks close to the ceiling. The plastic clip broke on one end when I was taking the kayaks out and shocked us all as the kayak hit the garage floor. Decided to get something good and sturdy as these are, and they are well made, easy to install (just have a stud finder), and very secure. If you need to hang two kayaks, get these! Bypass the cheap straps. They will only last a couple of years and then try and destroy your kayak. This will…

Pros
  • Perfect for those who enjoy kayaking but have limited space for storage
Cons
  • May be difficult to find replacement parts if they break

Upgraded lag bolts make for a perfect setup

All the reviews I had studied said this StoreYourBoard kayak ceiling hanging system was excellent except for the bolts which were too fine threaded for wood joists. This appears to have been addressed by manufacturer as my shipment included the courser threaded lag bolts one would typically use for this kind of installation. I am very pleased with build quality and the installation was straight forward.

Pros
  • Can be used to store any type of watercraft that fits within the weight limit
Cons
  • May not be able to hold different types of kayaks/canoes securely

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product and an excellent value.

This rack is a great solution for mounting kayaks to the ceiling. As noted by many others, the provided mounting bolts (3/16 x 2.25” carriage bolts) are totally inadequate, but this is easily remedied by replacing the bolts with something larger. The holes drilled in the mounting bracket are 1/4 inch, and a 1/4 by 3.5” carriages bolt would probably be fine. I enlarged the mounting holes and used 5/16 by 3.5” in carriage bolts. The rack itself installs easily and functions very well. It’s well…

Pros
  • Goes up easy and holds the kayaks
Cons
  • Not suitable for storing multiple items

Want to Mount yYour Kayaks? This is it.

What an amazing product. Incredibly easy to install, really good build quality, easily adjustable. If you spend a weird amount of time researching to find the best product- this is it.

Pros
  • DOUBLE CEILING STORAGE: 2 sided rack gives you 2x kayak storage capacity
Cons
  • May not be compatible with other storage solutions

Revainrating 5 out of 5

With this rack it was easy to set up and assemble

One problem! One of the cross shafts did not fit the receiving end. Tight fit had to bore it out with my dremmel to reach inside. Still went in tight but it went in and the push pin snapped in place.

Pros
  • Provides optimal storage for kayaks, freeing up valuable garage space
Cons
  • May require additional accessories for safer storage
