Now I can lock the tailgate.

My Pop & Lock PL5400 that I installed about 6 years ago finally broke. The plastic opener broke and I had to disassemble the latched tailgate from the back of the truck. After I disassembled and opened the back door, the new door was there in less than ten minutes. Connecting the lock to my ignition key was even easier. Installation is a little tricky, especially fitting the new handle through the tailgate's 'hole'. Watch the video and make sure you have a Phillips drill to remove the trunk…

Beautiful for the third time!

This is my third Pop&Lock tailgate handle that I have bought in the last 8 years. Overall I think it's a decent product that needs some improvements. My first pen broke when my daughter pulled on it too hard. As far as I know, the manufacturer has solved this problem. My second handle was defective with the lock and fell out about a month ago. I live in a sunny part of the US and the trim is badly weathered/worn - gray rather than black now. I just installed the third handle. I hope this lock…

It worked great on my 2014 taco with a hard backflip barrel.

Be careful, be very careful when buying this lock. It worked great for almost a year on my 2014 taco with hardback bakflip trunklid. Suddenly and without warning, the lock was still turning, but the knob wouldn't work! All my belongings were locked and I had to perform a very difficult extraction operation to get into the back of my own truck. When I finally opened it up, I was painfully aware that Pop & Lock had stopped working because of the cheap plastic parts used for that crap. The…

Installed on a 2005 Tacoma, tricky setup but works fine.

We installed this on our 2005 Taco to have a lock on the tailgate to prevent it and the bed extension from being stolen. Ultimately we want to add a rear camera and a cover. It looks like this device has a standard pop-up camera hole. Took a few minutes to install (more than you think if you're willing to take it upon yourself), washers and screwing in, be careful not to scratch the tailgate as your will get frustrated. We ended up searching YouTube for someone who had the same problem, so…

Perfect fit for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma with backup camera

I bought a Pop & Lock PL5400 with BOLT codeable technology for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup with backup camera. It fits perfectly, although Revain's Car Fitting Guide says it doesn't. The price was better than any other online store and it was shipped and sold by Revain. The product was well packaged and had detailed step-by-step instructions. There are many videos online showing the installation process. The only change you need to make is flipping the left stick, but this is a very simple…

Locked out after less than 2 years of use

This went on for 21 months before the cheap little plastic tab broke under the lock's pivot arm and left me locked in my truck's drawer. The key no longer moved the turning mechanism to the correct position to unlock it. And what's tricky, like most of us, I had a $600 Solid Fold Tonneau in the box and now I couldn't get in through the back door. After wringing out the tonneau cover for several hours, I was finally able to remove it and then rip open the inner plastic tailgate cover. I find the

I just installed my 2nd device. Don't forget to spin your hand!

This is my second Pop & Lock for my 2014 Tacoma. The first one broke after 2.5 years of operation. There was always resistance when opening and finally the notorious plastic part broke. So far I have been very satisfied with the product. Since there are not many alternatives, I took a risk and bought a second block. Not sure if this was in the instructions a few years ago, but the instructions for this unit said the rider's sidebar should be reversed or you would have premature grip failure. I…

Great but easy installation

I recently had a wheeled truck cover that locked on the tailgate but still allowed the tailgate to open. I bought this Pop & Lock to convert the back of a truck into a closed trunk when the lid is closed. I watched several videos on uTube about the installation (one linked to the Revain browser along with more detailed installation instructions) and it installed in less than 30 minutes. This lock offers the ability to encode each key to lock/unlock, but you can only encode the key once. I used…

Easy assembly and very good closure

Really fits 2015 Toyota Tacoma. I installed a "Regular Jane" model on a 2011 Tacoma, so I had some prior knowledge to help install this PL5400 model. I strongly recommend that you do two things before installing: 1) Go to the website and read the instructions as they are much easier to read than the sheet that comes in the box. http://www.popandlock.net/download/PL5400%20word%20rev2%20latch%20rod.pdf.394fc58ef03d6ed45e100ff42599c03e 2) Watch the YouTube video "Pop & Lock pl5400 back door lock".
